Course Description
- World History is a yearlong course that provides students with a comprehensive,
intensive study of major events and themes in world history. Students begin with a
study of the earliest civilizations worldwide and continue to examine major
developments and themes in all regions of the world. The course culminates in a study
of change and continuity and globalization at the beginning of the 21st century.

Grading Policy Final Grades with be calculated based on the following percentages
Fulton County Grading Scale
A = 90 Above 30% = Tests (and Major Projects)
B = 89 80 20% = End of Semester Exam
C = 79 70 20 % = Projects
F = 70 - Below 15% = Classwork
15% = Homework

Late Work
- Students are expected to submit their work on time. If work is late, 10 points will be
automatically deducted from the assignment in the following school day. If it is turned in
after this day or prior to the end of the unit, an automatic 50 points will be taken off.
This means that all late work must be made up and turned in before the end of the unit
and the beginning of the following unit. You cannot complete late work from August in
November.

Makeup Policy
- Students are responsible for getting notes from another student in the class for the
day(s) missed. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, the assignment
will be due on the day he/she returns to school. For excused absences, students will
receive the actual grade earned on makeup work. Any test, quiz, or assignment missed
because of an unexcused absence.

NSCHS Social Studies Department Plagiarism Statement

- Plagiarism is the use of anothers words or ideas and the presentation of them as
though they are entirely ones own. Acts of plagiarism might include, but are not limited
to 1.) using words or ideas from a published source without proper documentation 2.)
using work of another student (e.g. copying another students homework, composition,
or project) 3.) using excessive editing suggestions of another student, parent or paid
author. Plagiarism on any project or paper at North Springs Charter High School will
result in a zero for the assignment and an Honor Code violation. Unless directly
stipulated by the teacher, collaboration on written work is not acceptable. Students who
willingly provide other students with access to their work are in violation of the Honor
Code.

Cheating
- While some class work will be done cooperatively, cheating will not be tolerated. Any
form of cheating, including copying others work, will result in a zero and notification of
your parent or guardian. Additionally, an Honor Code violation form will be submitted.
Taking a picture of a completed assignment and texting it or having possession on your
phone of a completed assignment of another students is considered cheating. If you
break the honor code, I cannot write a positive letter of recommendation for you for a
job, internship, for school sports, clubs and activities or for college applications.

Class Expectations and Student Responsibilities

- Be On Time. Do Not Be Tardy. Attendance will be taken as soon as class begins. You
will not be admitted to class without a pass from a teacher, counselor, administrator, or
the attendance office.
- Be Prepared. Come to class ready to learn. BRING your tablet, writing utensils, binder,
and paper everyday unless instructed otherwise.
- Be Respectful. Respect the ideas and opinions of everyone in the room. Keep
discussions and conversations appropriate.

those regarding attendance; cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices; disruptive
behavior; and appropriate and proper dress.
- Be Neat. Keep the classroom clean.
- Be in Class. Use the restroom before coming to class.

If you break class rules, have a poor attitude, disrespect teacher or classmates, break the dress
code, sleep, leave my class to go the bathroom and go elsewhere, cheat and/or are tardy, I
cannot write a positive letter of recommendation for you for a job, internship, for school
sports, clubs, and activities, or for college applications.
A Note from your Fearless Leader
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share World History with your child this
year. I look forward to sharing my passion for history through a variety of teaching
strategies and assignments. I will draw on wonderful experiences from a lifetime of
travel and study as well as the personal experiences and interests of the class.
Please be a participant in your childs experience, as we will move at a rapid
pace. Students will have homework assignments on a regular basis. Nightly review of
class notes and reading assignments in addition to completion of homework and
projects will prepare students for overall success in the course. Parents should monitor
student progress through E-Schools and thorough constant communication with their
child.
I welcome any feedback concerning your child this semester. Please feel free to
contact me at grantjf@fultonschools.org and through northspringsworldhistory.weebly.com
