Using a work of art from the Ancient


Civilisations to the early 1980s,
students in groups of five to six, are
required to research its background
then give new life to it.
Four Possible Versions
A Reinvented as an advertisement for a product or service, OR

Reinvented as a promotional material for another artistic work


B (movie poster, book cover, album art, game cover, theatre
poster), OR

Reinvented as a poster for a social campaign (1Malaysia, Bersih

rally, Car Pooling, etc.) , OR

Reinvented as a work of art but in another medium or style


D (Mona Lisa but photographic version, Venus de Milo as a POP Art
poster, abstraction of the Creation of Adam)

STEPS
1. Assemble your team and have the secretary fill
in the group members form with the lecturer
2. Select a minimum 3 works of art. Best to select
from works covered in the class syllabus, or
hung along the stairs of Block M, but any other
famous work of art possible but please
consultation with lecturer needed.
3. Do a very basic background research on the art
work and the artist for each project proposal.
For example: short artist bio, art work subject,
and style. Mind maps and short notes sufficient.

4. For each work, produce a sketch on how the art work may be:

STEPS
5. Arrange a meeting with the lecturer before week 13 or earlier and
show the three best works. One will be selected by the lecturer
and

- produced as an A3 size poster in the medium of your choice (digital


or photographic print, painted poster, collage, or mixed media) so
long as it remains 2-Dimentional. Laminate if possible.

-If the work is 3D, the A3 poster will be a documentation of it.


- produce a high quality printout of the original art work in A5 size
card and laminate it.

- produce a 400 word text on the original art work and laminate it on
a A5 card (refer to text content and format sheet)
MAKE SURE EACH DOCUMENT (1 x A3 size poster, 1 x A5 original artwork card, 1 x A5
artwork info card) HAS STUDENT DETAILS ON THE BACK (NAME, ID No#, CLASS)
STEPS
6. On week 14, the A3 posters will be collected posted in
a specified location and date to create a group
exhibition. Each group has one or two representatives
to give a 5 minute presentation their creation. Each
presentation is followed by a critique session. BESIDES
THE HARDCOPY POSTER AND A5 CARDS, SUBMIT as
well a digital files that compile the art work, research
material, and proposed sketches on presentation day.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

QUALITY OF RESEARCH AND PROPOSALS (10%)


REINVENTED ARTWORK & TEXT (10%),
PRESENTATION & RESPONSE TO CRITIQUE (5%),
OTHER FACTORS (5%)
