Cannabis company plans to

By John Locher and John Rogers

NIPTON Now that one of the nations largest cannabis

companies has bought the entire California desert town of
Nipton, a question remains: Will the new owners rename the
place Potsylvania?
The name Weed already belongs to an old mill town in
Northern California.
American Green Inc. announced Thursday it is buying all 80
acres of Nipton, which includes its Old West-style hotel, a
handful of houses, an RV park and a coffee shop. Its plans are
to transform the old Gold Rush town into what it calls an
energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destina-
tion.
The towns current owner, Roxanne Lang, said the sale is
still in escrow, but confirmed American Green is the buyer.
She declined to reveal price before the sale closes, but noted

Jets sign Devon Still, claim
Bruce Ellington off waivers
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. The New York Jets have signed
defensive lineman Devon Still, whose daughters inspiring
battle with cancer and subsequent remission made national
headlines.
The Jets also claimed wide receiver Bruce Ellington off
waivers from the San Francisco 49ers on Friday and signed
defensive lineman Jeremy Faulk.
Still spent his first three NFL seasons with the Cincinnati
Bengals and appeared in three games last year for Houston
before a foot injury landed him on injured reserve.
Still and his daughter Leah, whos now 7, have served as a
source of inspiration as she fought cancer in 2014 and 2015.
Still says his daughter has been cancer-free for over two years.

Florida State wide receiver

DaVante Phillips suspended
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida State wide receiver
DaVante Phillips is suspended after being charged on five
felony counts related to fraud.
Phillips, a junior from Miami, was booked into Leon
County jail on Friday before posting bail and being
released. The Leon County sheriffs office says Phillips
faces four felony counts of cashing or depositing items with
intent to defraud, and one felony count of grand theft of more
than $300 and less than $5,000. He is expected to appear in
court on Saturday.
University policy states though that an athlete is indefi-
nitely suspended while facing a felony charge. Phillips had
taken part in the Seminoles first three preseason practices.
Phillips was expected to see playing time for Florida
State, which is lacking depth and experience at the receiver
position. He has five receptions for 30 yards in his career.
