METHOD STATEMENT FOR CUTTING OF SHORING PILES

AND ARCHED WALLS

1. Scope

This method statement covers the procedures to be implemented during


cutting of shoring piles and arched walls to the required depths/levels.

2. Purpose

This method statement defines the responsibilities and describes the activities
and procedures to be implemented during cutting of shoring piles and arched
walls to the required depths/levels to facilitate the backfilling between
retaining wall and project boundary.

3. Responsibilities

3.1. The Surveyor shall be responsible for all survey works, but not limited, to the
following:
3.1.1. Take the coordinates of all corners for areas of general excavation.
3.1.2. Take levels, at suitable grids as agreed with Civil Site Engineer, both
before and after completion of excavation.
3.1.3. Prepare all relevant survey data, together with appropriate sketches.

3.2. The Civil Site Engineer and Civil Foreman shall be responsible for the
implementation of the work in accordance with this method statement and
their responsibilities shall be, but not limited, to the following:
3.2.1. Preparation of work schedule.
3.2.2. Preparation of required tools and equipment.
3.2.3. Supervising the work to ensure the work is performed properly.
3.2.4. Ensure that survey data are available prior to start of the civil work.

5. Procedures

5.1. Prior to start of the work, the Engineer shall be notified.

5.2. The work shall start when dewatering works have been completed and
dewatering header pipes have been removed.
5.3. The Site Civil Engineer shall coordinate with all concerned parties like the
service sub-contractors, shoring sub-contractor and finishing works for
orderly progression of the work. Work shall not proceed until unsatisfactory
conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work have
been properly coordinated and corrected.
5.4. Install temporary fence to enclose the work area and to avoid entry of
unauthorized persons.
5.5. Dismantle the existing fence.
5.6. Excavate inside the temporary fence towards the retaining wall side to Levels
under Finishes (as shown on the attached drawing) to expose the shoring
piles and arched walls to be cut.
5.7. All services outlets to the project site shall be located. All cables like for the
tower cranes, internet, electrical wires, cameras, etc., shall be temporarily
relocated away from the excavation.
5.8. Proper slope shall be maintained at areas with excessive soil. At Heritage
Village side, slope shall be as per attached Sketch (Excavation at Heritage
Village Side). Coordination shall be made with Heritage Village side to avoid
contingency that might occur due to activity at their side.
5.9. Remove the surplus excavated soil, debris, etc from site.
5.10. The shoring piles and arched walls shall be slowly chipped to expose
the reinforcing bars using a chipping hammer and/or jack hammer. Once
exposed, the reinforcing steel bars shall be cut using cutting disc and/or gas
cutting at 2000 mm below Levels Under Finishes.
5.11. Reinstall the dismantled fence.
5.12. The fence shall be reinstalled at same location of existing but at Levels
Under Finishes. Posts of fences shall be casted with concrete foundations
while some areas at Babtain Library side shall be re-installed with removable
fence.
5.13. Continue removal of fence for every 40 meters and provide temporary
fence and continue excavation for the work area. (For Heritage Village and
Babtain Library sides only).
5.14. Precautions and proper coordination shall be taken regarding the
stationary pump and access to project site at Heritage Village side to avoid
interruption on concrete casting activities.
5.15. Coordination shall be made with all trades and services and all
governing ministries having jurisdiction requirements and code.
5.16. All related provisions of the contract document, local codes and
ordinances of governing authorities having jurisdiction shall be strictly
implemented.
5.17. The work shall bear no extra cost/time to Employer.

6. Safety

6.1. The Site Engineer and Foreman in coordination with the Safety Officer shall
be ensuring compliance with all safety requirements during the
implementation of this work which shall include, but not limited to the
following:
6.1.1. Provision of safety paraphernalia
6.1.2. Provision of appropriate warning signs at work area.
6.1.3. Proper coordination with all concerns regarding installed services.
6.1.4. Proper disposal of excess soil and other debris.
