Preoperative decision for surgery up until patient is transferred to OR room


Intra operative from OR table to PACU
Post Operative PACU to follow up evaluation

Exploratory determine the extent of disease condition
Palliative relieve distressing signs and symptoms not to cure the disease

Ablative Removal of Organ
Constructive Repair of Congenital w/ defect
- Restorative Organ; strengthen weak organ
- Reconstructive repair of damage organ.
Cosmetics Improve Shape/Appearance

According to the Degree of Risk

Major Surgery Minor Surgery


- High Risk - not prolonged
- Extensive - < serious complication
- Prolong - < risk
- > Blood Loss
- > Risk of Complication

According to the degree of Urgency

Emergency done stat to save life/limb


Imperative/urgent done in 24 to 48
Planned required necessary for well deing wks or mons schedule
Elective not need for survival delay or omission will not cause defect.
Optional request by client/aesthetic purposes
Day/Ambulatory/ OPD surgery done in outpatient basis

- Nursing care is provided in the total surgical experience.

- Surgeon declares whether the surgery is major or minor OR case.


Purpose of surgery

2. Palliative to relieve signs and symptoms not to treat the disease.
Example: Rhizotomy- cutting of nerve endings.
