The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) is a non-profit, inter-tribal consortium established by
tribal leaders in 1953. ATNI is organized and chartered as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation under the
laws of the State of Oregon. Currently, there are 60 ATNI member tribes from Alaska, Washington,
Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and California. ATNIs headquarters are located in Portland, Oregon
and a regional office in Spokane, Washington. ATNI is an organization [w]hose foundation is
composed of the people it is meant to serve, the Indian peoples.
ATNI purpose is to provide a forum for sharing information on matters of interest to its member
Tribes, develop consensus on matters of mutual importance, assist member Tribes in their
governmental and programmatic development consistent with their goals for self-determination and
self-sufficiency and provide for effective public relations and education programs with the non-Indian
communities, collaborate with governmental partners, industry, and other entities. ATNI has extended
this purpose to work with other tribal entities and inter-tribal organizations on issues of common
interest and alignment.
Welcome
Welcome to the First Affilia ted Tribes of Northwest Indians
(ATNI) Changi ng Currents: Tribal Water Summit here on the
beautiful University of Oregon Campus at the Knight Law Center
in Eugene, Oregon.
This is our first intertribal water summit focusing on tribal water resources from the
summit to the sea. We hope that this event is a space for connecting with familiar and
new colleagues, exploring opportunities for partnership to help tribal communities, and
a venue to gather new ideas and information.
That said, thank you to all of the speakers, moderators, panelists for their time and
commitment in making this event a success. Additionally, thank you to our event
partners and sponsors; without their support this event would not be possible.
Sincerely,
Micah McCarty
