Lesson Title: The Differentiation Strategy-Stations

Objective To learn and analyze the differentiation strategy stations.

Duration 60 Minutes

Materials/Equipment PDF PowerPoint (PPT) Slideshow, computer, projector or TV, post-it easel
Needed pad, markers, tables, pens, paper

Special Note: Set up four table stations. Put two post-it easel pad paper at
each station with a marker set aside. Write down four discussion questions
on separate paper and label the station number according to the question
number before the presentation.

Procedures Show PPT Page 1 and greet teacher attendees as they enter the room.
3 minutes (PPT Page 2): Opening Quote. Discuss the importance of
choosing the appropriate differentiation strategies with students.
Learning differentiation strategies is not for the sake using them. It is
about making a difference for learners. Remind teachers to keep this
mindset throughout the training session and after.
15 minutes (PPT Page 3): Introduce Stations
1 minute (PPT Page 3-4): Show definition of Stations & what
Stations look like
4 minutes (PPT Page 5): Show differentiations in Stations
4 minutes (PPT Page 6): Present teachers with the four
questions for them to consider while watching a teaching
video demonstration of Stations in a Social Studies class.
o Four questions:
1. What preparations and directions did the teacher
give to his students to ensure clearing
understanding of the activity?
2. What did the teacher do to support different
types of learners in this activity?
3. How did the teacher incorporate technology in
this activity?
4. Write down the types of student disabilities that
will need accommodations from this teacher.
Also, write down possible solutions for each
type of disability.
5 minutes (PPT Page 6 Hyperlink): Show teaching video
36 minutes (PPT Page 7): Analyze Stations activity using the Stations
format
5 minutes (PPT Page 7): Show the directions for analyzing
Stations activity.
o Directions:
1. Your presenter will divide you and your
colleagues into four groups using a method of
his/her choice.
2. Each group will be called Group 1-4.
3. Group 1 will begin in Station 1, Group 2 will
begin in Station 2 and so on.
4. Each initial group will have 5 minutes to discuss
each station questions and write down the
discussion results on the paper at each station.
5. Each subsequent group will also have 5 minutes
to discuss and add on information to each station
paper.
6. The presenter will signal each group to rotation
after each time is up. The rotation will end once
all groups rotate back to their initial stations.
1 minute: Follow the directions above to divide and name
groups.
20 minutes: Follow the directions above to begin the stations
activity.
10 minutes (PPT Page 8): Once all groups return to their
initial stations, begin asking one group member to share what
has been written on their station paper. Repeat until all four
groups finish sharing. Comment on the sharing process and
facilitate reflection if possible.
6 minutes (PPT Page 9):Wrap-up & Show reference page
2 minutes: Ask several teachers if they vision themselves
implementing this strategy in their classrooms.
2 minutes: Ask if any teachers do not vision themselves
implementing the strategy and why.
2 minutes: Ask if any teachers still have questions about
Stations. Try to answer questions if possible. If not, find out
the answers and follow up with the teachers afterwards.
