Purpose
The purpose of this document is to describe the preventive and corrective maintenance
procedures applicable to the Alcatel-Lucent 9311Macro V2 Node B Outdoor cabinet with
a Alcatel-Lucent 9926 d4U installed in the digital shelf.

UTRAN components
The UTRAN is composed of at least one Radio Network Subsystem (RNS). An RNS
covers a certain geographical area. It is equivalent to the GSM BSS. Each RNS is
composed of one Radio Network Controller (RNC) and one or more Node Bs. RNSs are
interconnected through the Iur interface of each RNC to form a network.
Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN
The Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN is based on the following components:

The Alcatel-Lucent RNC is 3GPP-compliant. It is based on the Multiservice Switch
platform.
RNC main functions

The main functions of the RNC are to control and manage:
Radio Access Network (RAN)

(RNS)
Node Bs and their radio resources
RNC interfaces

The Alcatel-Lucent Wireless Management System (WMS) delivers an integrated UMTS

management platform through which all Network Elements (NE) can be monitored and
controlled.

It plays an important role in providing the foundation of a complete end-to-end
management solution for UMTS networks. The WMS manages the entire UMTS
network, which is divided into:
The UTRAN
The Core Network (circuit-switched and packet-switched traffics).
The Access Network OAM manages the UTRAN part of the network.
Access Network OAM main functions

The Access Network OAM manages the UTRAN part of the network.
The main functions of Access Network OAM are the following:
Fault management
Configuration management
Performance management
NSP
The Network Services Platform (NSP) is a graphical user interface to the Access Network
providing a common platform for navigation and control. The NSP interfaces with the
NEs through a Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). This
vendor-independent architecture links computer applications across different networks.
Optional Supported Network Configurations

From LR13.1.W, BTS daisy chaining through the NodeB allows one GE link to serve a
number of base stations. The base station can be multi-generation of 2G, 3G or 4G. The
number of base stations is limited to 1Gb/s of the GE link or by the capacity of the switch
of the most upstream base station of the chain which must be a 3G NodeB.
The NodeB located upstream in the daisy chain with respect to the position of another
base station B is called the Chaining NodeB or the Dropping NodeB while base station
B (whatever the generation) is called the Chained base station or the Dropped base
station. The Dropped base station is never aware of the daisy chain.
A NodeB can be used for daisy chaining once the software is uploaded in the NodeB. The
feature can be activated without the need to reset the Chaining NodeB.
The service is managed at the MDA level and makes use of the MAC addressing to
distinguish Chained base station frames from Chaining BTS ones.
PRELIMINARY
This network configuration requires 9926 d4U - W-CDMA or d2U NodeB equipped with
GE MDA and full IP backhaul. Besides, only Alcatel-Lucent base stations are supported
in the daisy chain.

Introduction
The 9311 Macro V2 OD is an ETSI UMTS Node B element and supports the Iub
interface.
The 9311 Macro V2 OD only supports the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode.
The 9311 Macro V2 OD is responsible for radio transmission/reception from/to one or
more cells to/from the User Equipment (UE).

The means of communication between a UE and a network using Transport Channels
Physical layer channels which are necessary to synchronize the downlink and also to
perform cell selection/reselection and hand over preparation
Measurement information to the RNC for radio resource management (hand over,
power control)
The 9311 Macro V2 OD provides up to eight E1/T1 (only T1 for UMTS 850) with
Inversion Multiplexing ATM (IMA) or Drop and Insert capability (fractional E1/T1).
The 9311 Macro V2 OD also supports:

Microwave Packet Radio (MPR)
9311 Macro V2 OD interfaces

The 9311 Macro V2 OD provides the following interfaces:
Uu interface (UMTS User interface): this interface is used between the Node B and
the UE. It is dependent on the technology used on the radio (for example, it can be
W-CDMA or TD/CDMA).
Iub interface (Interface Node B): this interface lies between the RNC and the Node B.
It allows to connect RNCs.
9311 Macro V2 OD cabinet

The 9311 Macro V2 OD cabinet is a single cabinet closed by two doors. It is designed to
ease transport, installation, repair, network growth and flexibility, and to manage diverse
traffic demands.
PRELIMINARY
To increase the Node B capacity, modules are added instead of whole cabinets.
The 9311 Macro V2 OD hardware supports High Speed Downlink Packet Access
(HSDPA).

The 9311 Macro V2 OD 2100 cabinet is divided into the following compartments:
Upper compartment
Main compartment
Bulkhead
The upper compartment comprises the Environmental Cooling Unit (ECU). The ECU is
an integral part of the Node B cabinet design. It is the cooling unit of the cabinet and is
accessed through the front-hinged access door.
The main compartment is divided into the two following parts.
The left part includes the following elements:
One Power Amplifier InterCO (PA ICO) module
One TRDU shelf (up to six TRDUs)
One Radio Frequency InterCO (RF ICO) module (unused)
One Dual Duplexer Module shelf (unused)

The 9311 Macro V2 OD 2100 is available in an AC/DC variant for customers who want
to power the 9311 Macro V2 OD from an external -48 V DC power supply source. AC
network is still required to activate heating feature of the cabinet and AC Plug option.
The AC/DC variant of the 9311 Macro V2 OD cabinet and the standard AC powered 9311
Macro V2 OD cabinet have a similar compartment layout.
Compared to the standard AC powered cabinet, the AC/DC variant integrates the

The DC input voltage range is -40.5 V up to -57 V DC with the following behaviors:
Limitation associated to the cabinet start up: the DC power supply voltage must be
higher than 52 V to start up the Node B.
Limitation associated to the LVD Threshold: the LVD Threshold is unchanged from
the AC version and is set to -44 V DC. The Node B operates only if the DC power
supply voltage is higher than -44 V at the entry of the Node B.

9926 d4U is possible in a horizontal configuration only
9926 d4U power supply by additional/customer source
Dual Node B Specifications

From system release LR13.1W, a new feature will enable operators to stack two logical
Node Bs inside the same d4U in order to provide a higher signaling capacity.
In this configuration, two controllers (one per Node B) are plugged into the 9926 d4U and
all modems will be shared between the controllers. The hosting of these two Node Bs
implies that the both Node Bs are equipped with GigE MDA eCCM-U controllers and
eCEM-U or xCEM-U modems.
Note: Neither the xCCM-U controller nor the 4E1 MDA configuration are supported
with the dual Node B feature.
Both controllers will be hosting their own Iub backhaul termination as well as their own
CPRI interfaces towards the remote equipments (TRDU or RRH).
The Node Bs are independent except for some interfacing mechanisms for OAM
purposes.
In the dual Node B configuration, an inter-CCM interface allows the two eCCM-U
controllers to communicate across the backplane and check the configuration information
consistency.
Supported Configurations
When the d4U is used in a Dual Node B (2 controller) set-up, the following hardware
configurations are possible:
eCCMu with GE MDA is supported in Physical slot 5 and 4 for dual controller (Split
Mode).
xCCMu is not supported a dual Node B configuration.
eCCM in Phy slot 5 can support upto 6 CEMs ( 1,2,3,6,7,8).

Preventive maintenance
The preventive maintenance is used to periodically test the items of equipment that do not
directly trigger any alarm at the OMC. However, the execution of preventive maintenance
procedures can trigger alarms at the OMC.
These procedures must be performed according to the following schedules.
It is possible to group some of the procedures, which reduces the intervention time. The
intervention time indicated corresponds to the intervention time for each item of
equipment.
Note: In certain environments, these procedures may be required more frequently:
In dusty or dirty environments the fan filter may need to be replaced more
frequently.
Environmental conditions and door opening-closing frequency may impact the
door gasket ageing.
Antenna mounts and connectors may require periodic cleaning in dirty and high
humidity areas.
Systems located in high seismic areas may require anchor bolts and mounting
hardware to be tightened periodically especially for field installed items.

For outdoor Node Bs, in windy conditions, be careful when opening and closing cabinet
doors to prevent damage to equipment or harm to people. Hold doors firmly until you
properly secure the door latch mechanism. It is not recommended to do maintenance
when the wind is over 70 km/h.

The definition is dVo = V, where Vmax = Vmax[Vo1, Vo2, Vo3, or Vo4] and Vmin =
Vmin[Vo1, Vo2, Vo3, or Vo4]. dVo is in fact an image of the open-circuit unbalance of the
batteries.
WARNING
Protection
If skin, eyes, or clothes are splashed by sulfuric acid during a test, abundantly wash with
water and consult a doctor as soon as possible. Wear rubber gloves for all test
operations.
For this activity, you must plan a place where it is possible to rinse your eyes.
Before visiting the site, check that there has been no mains power failure within the last
48 hours. After a mains power failure, the cabinet must operate on the mains for at least
ten hours to reload the batteries.
Never short-circuit the batteries.
Never try to open a battery.
Never throw a battery in the fire.
WARNING
Electric-shock hazard
The Node B remains supplied with the mains power supply.
There is a risk of sparks during the test.
Personnel safety rules: the personnel performing this check must wear rubber gloves and
must be isolated from the ground.
CAUTION
Service interruption
There is a risk of loss of service. Send feedback of alarms to the OAM.
Working instructions: in case of replacement, the whole set must be changed. The four
batteries in the same set must be identical (brand, reference number, date code).

2 Perform the charge check. To do so, use the clamp to check that the battery charge
residual current is below 200 mA on the wire.

3 Perform the servicing:

Switch OFF the DC circuit breaker (CB).
Unscrew the nut connecting the black wire (-) and isolate it with the adhesive tape.
Take care not to touch the sides of the cabinet with the lugs of the wire (risk of
short-circuit).
Unscrew the nut connecting the blue wire (+) and isolate it with the adhesive tape.
Take care not to touch the sides of the cabinet with the lugs of the wire (risk of
short-circuit).
Clean the batteries with a damp cloth; do not use corrosive detergents or oil.
Check for presence of corrosion on the terminals of a string.

4 Perform the electrical test with the three electrical test criteria Vo, VL, and dVo which
were defined previously:
Disconnect the batteries.
Unscrew nut no.1 connecting the black wire (-) and isolate it with the adhesive tape.
Note: Do not to touch the sides of the cabinet with the lugs of the wire (risk of
short-circuit).
Unscrew nut no.2 connecting the blue wire (+) and isolate it with the adhesive tape.
Note: Do not to touch the sides of the cabinet with the lugs of the wire (risk of
short-circuit).
Mark the three black inter-battery cables.
Unscrew the six nuts connecting the inter-battery cables.
Measure the open-circuit voltage Vo with the Benning Acutest.
Measure the four load voltage VL with the recommended Acutest, following the tester
instructions.
Reconnect the batteries.
Screw the nut connecting the black wire (-).
Screw the nut connecting the blue wire (+).

5 Analyze the results:

Case 1: when the four batteries are over four years old, the whole set must be
systematically replaced. The periodicity for a systematic battery replacement is
therefore four years.
Case 2: if the three criteria below are met, the batteries are operational:
Open-circuit voltage Vo > 12.5 V
Load voltage VL > 11 V
The difference between the two extreme open-circuit voltages dVo < 0.5 V
Case 3: if at least one of these three criteria is not met, the batteries are not
operational. Replace the complete set. Please refer to "Replacing the batteries" in
Alcatel-Lucent 9311 Macro Node B Outdoor - Corrective Maintenance ,
3MN-00475-0012-REZZA.

Corrective maintenance
The network maintenance is based on the supervision of the network, by using the OAM
graphical interface. For more information, refer to Alcatel-Lucent 9353 Wireless

It is also based on the identification and replacement of faulty items of equipment, using
the alarms.
The process is divided into the following two steps:

When inserting a new eCEM-U module next to an existing xCEM-U module, this last one
reboots. When the xCEM-U module reboots, the assigned sector or frequency loses its
traffic.
To avoid this traffic loss, the cell or sector associated with the xCEM-U must be locked.

3 Power down the 9926 d4U - W-CDMA.

To do this, follow the procedure Powering down the 9926 d4U - W-CDMA
(p. 6-7) according to the 9926 d4U - W-CDMA hardware configuration used:
In mono-controller configuration, cut off the power supply of the both RUCs.
In dual controller configuration, cut off only the power supply of the RUC linked to
the defective CCM.
Attention: In case of the UA7.1 to UA08.1 software upgrade, cut off the power
supply of the both RUCs.

Carry out the following procedure to replace a TRDU in a 9311 Macro V2 OD with d4U
in the digital shelf.
Important! Mixity restriction : TRDU model mixity is not allowed within a cluster.
Note: Make sure that the TRDU module type used as a spare part is identical to the
one to be replaced in the TRDU shelf (TRDU60-21, TRDU60-21B). The left and right
parts of the shelf must consist of three modules of the same type per sector (for
example, S1: TRDU60-21, S2: TRDU60-21B).
Note: To exchange a faulty TRDU module, replace it with a module of the same type
in a group of three identical modules.

Replacing the ADU module

Purpose
Perform the following procedure to replace the ADU module of the 9311 Macro V2 OD.
Note: When an ADU lightning protector is defective, an ADU lightning protection
alarm is reported to the OMC. The ADU module must be replaced. To do this, follow
the procedure below.

Case 1: The CCM is not faulty and was not replaced. Go to Step 3.
Case 2: The CCM has just been replaced. Go to Step 14.
Case 3: During the first site intervention, the MCA backup file was necessary but
impossible to obtain quickly.
For this second intervention, make sure the coordinator sent you the most recent MCA
backup file. If you have a PC (TIL), store the file in the <default
path>/BTS@223.254.244/MCABackup folder. The number after the IC_APPROVED
prefix must be the same as the serial number of the Node B. Go to Step 4.
Note: If the coordinator did not send you the MCA backup file and if it is impossible
to obtain it quickly, do not change the faulty MCA, disconnect the PCM cable from
the CCM front panel, leave the site and come back when you have the appropriate
MCA backup file.

Two standard hose clamps, two standard mounting brackets, and four nuts to fasten

Purpose
Perform the following procedure to power down the 9926 d4U - W-CDMA.
Procedure

1 Preliminary operation: make sure that the "BTSEquipment" object is "locked".

2 On the RUC V5 module, put the power switch "1/0" (ON/OFF) to the ""0" (OFF)"
position.

3 Check that all LEDs on the eCCM-U or xCCM-U and on each eCEM-U or xCEM-U are
OFF.

4 Check that the fans are stopping down.

European regulatory requirement compliance

Overview
As a radio product, the Node B falls under the requirement of the Radio and Telecom
Terminal Equipment (RTTE) European directive 1999/5/EEC. The RTTE directive covers
essential requirements in the field of:
Protection of the Health and Safety of the user and any other person, including the
objectives with respect to safety requirements contained in the Low Voltage directive
(2006/95/EC)
The protection requirements with respect to EMC contained in Directive
2004/108/EC.
The equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed
and used in accordance with the instruction manual, the equipment may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by
turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference.
The EMC requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of
compatibility for apparatus at residential, commercial, and light industrial
environments. The levels however, do not cover extreme cases which may occur in
any location but with a low probability of occurrence. In particular, it may not cover
those cases where a potential source of interference which is producing individually
repeated transient phenomena, or continuous phenomena, is permanently present, for
example a radar or broadcast site in the near vicinity. In such a case it may be
necessary to either limit the source of interference, or use special protection applied,
to the interfered part, or both.
Note: For operation or maintenance inside Alcatel-Lucent systems, the antistatic wrist
shall always be used to maintain the integrity of the product.
Effective use of the Radio spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communication
and orbital resources so as to avoid harmful interference. The routes and standards
used to demonstrate compliance with there essential requirements are outlined in the
following paragraphs.
Node B EMC
Compliance with the essential requirements of EMC has been demonstrated using
EN301489-1 & -23 standard.
Node B radio compliance
Compliance with the essential requirements of effective use of the radio spectrum

Overview
The aforementioned standards compliance of the products are based on the following
operating conditions (called normal operation):
Doors shall be closed and/or covers shall be in place.
External cables shall be of the same type as specified by Alcatel-Lucent.
No modification of any mechanical or electrical characteristics of the product shall be
made.
Any change or modification made to the product without written approval from
Alcatel-Lucent releases Alcatel-Lucent from subsequent responsibility regarding the
standards compliance.

Overview
