SAFE & SECURE WORK PLAN - COMMUNITY HARDWARE RELOCATION

The work to relocate the Community Hardware Store will be conducted by Expert House Movers of Md,
Inc., a leading expert in the field of structural moving and raising. EHM has over 4 decades of
experience in the field and is responsible for some of the highest profile structural moves in the
country, including Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on the Outer Banks of NC. EHM utilizes the latest in
engineered technology in the unified jacking system and self propelled hydraulic dollies. Their work
plan and step by step process to safely and securely raise and relocate the house from the current
location on Wisconsin Ave to the new site on Middleton Lane is outlined below.
1. Prior to any movement or modification to the structure, an analysis will be conducted by a
structural engineer to determine the structural bracing required to ensure the house is
adequately braced to handle such a move.
2. After analysis, any and all bracing will be installed by qualified carpenters and inspected by the
structural engineer to ensure compliance with the bracing design.
3. House will be moved as two separate parts; as such, the house will be cut into two sections by
qualified carpenters. The cuts will be made with structural integrity and bracing in mind such
that the two halves will be self supporting after separation.
4. Temporary waterproofing and reinforced high strength poly will be installed after the
separation and during the move to prevent any water intrusion into the building.
5. Once the building is cut into two halves, the below steps will occur to move the house from
Wisconsin Ave to Middleton Lane

Insert beams under both parts of the building, shim tight and install jacks.
Raise both sections of the building no higher than 5.
Insert dolly wheels under each half, plumb up drive unit and finalize prep for move.
The night of move, Expert will arrive early onsite to go over pre-move check list (see attached
for reference).
Once the road is closed, we will start the hour long process of getting both houses onto
Wisconsin Ave and ready to make progress east toward Middleton La.
When both houses are ready to move down Wisconsin Ave, we will coordinate with the
police and utility companies to ensure they have the move path clear of overhead obstructions,
and start the move.
The move from the existing location at 7250 Wisconsin Ave to the Middleton Lane turn off
should only take an hour.
Both buildings will make the turn onto Middleton Lane back to back. Once off Wisconsin
Ave, we will park the front half of the structure and set the rear section of the building on the
new lot and spot it within inches of its final location.
The front section of the building will be spotted next over the new location. At this point
Expert will be clear of all roads and the police will be free to open the road.
Remove dolly wheels from under the two parts of the building and set at appropriate
elevation.

6. After the house is set on the new foundation, residential carpenters will splice and join the two
separate halves together following the structural design shown in permit drawing set. Repairs
to the finishes, interior and exterior will be made to renovate the house back to current
condition.

CHECK LIST FOR HOUSE MOVES AND RAISINGS

1) Have electric, phone and cable lines disconnected and removed from the house, when
contacting the electric company make sure that they know that the house is going to be
moved and have the electric service disconnected. For raising: if there is enough slack in
the electric wires overhead you do not have to disconnect the electric. If the electric stays
on the homeowner must put in a new ground wire.
2) Contact the following about raising the lines during the move:
Electric Company, Cable TV Company, & Phone Company
3) Contact Ms. Utility (1-800-441-8355) to locate the underground lines.
4) Have water, gas and sewer capped off.
5) Locate septic tanks and wells at both the old site and the new site.
6) Have property lines clearly marked at both the old site and the new site.
7) Have house location clearly marked.
8) New site needs to be graded level, no piles of dirt left from the digging of footers.
9) Basement: The basement hole needs to be ramped in and out on an 8% grade, there also
needs to be gravel or proper drainage in the basement hole.
10) To expedite moving or raising anchor bolts should be found and removed, flat
Washers should also be removed. If bolts cannot be removed, blocks will have to be
broken in order to get to the anchor bolts.
11) Wells & Septic Tank must be marked with 8 stakes or poles with flags on them. The
loader operators cannot see them when they are on the loader.
12) Any shrubs or bushes that the owner wishes to save should be removed by the owner of
the house before the mover starts working.
