1 Characteristics of Outdoor Environments

ENVIRONMENT TYPE POSTER and FLASH CARDS TASK

Choose a Victorian Ecosystem type and complete the following tasks.

PART A POSTER and CASE STUDY

Using the information you collected on the research task last week. Choose a National
Park in Victoria that represents the environment type you are studying. Create a poster
that includes the information

1. Description of the Ecosystem/Environment type including the following;

Key geographical features (location in Victoria, Altitude, position, etc.)
Information about geology (soil type, rock etc)

Description of the features of natural environment

Climate
Rainfall
Flora and Fauna
Unique or endangered species
Introduced Species

Find a National Park in Victoria that contains this ecosystem type and describe the
features of the National Park. Make this poster interesting and informative. Particularly
regarding the type of outdoor environment.

These have excellent descriptions of ecosystem types. You may need to adapt the
terminology used to suit the key environment types in the study design and your
textbook.

vegetation. The environment types are very specific and most of them are sub
categories of the main types.

PART B FLASH CARDS

1. Construct a series of flash cards for the main type of ecosystem in the national
park you have been researching. Each card must contain one of the following headings
and some information relating to it.
a. Elevation
b. Average Rainfall
c. 2 common animal species (put each on a separate card and include a
picture)
d. 1 endangered animal or plant species
e. 2 common plant species (again each on a separate card and including a
picture)
f. Soil type
g. A small map of the state showing locations of this ecosystem

Each card should be 5cm X 7cm.

An example for an arid ecosystem is below to show you what to do.
