Analytical solutions from FOSS.
Designed to cover a wide range
of feed and petfood ingredients

3
Leading the way in analysis for
the feed and forage industry
Throughout the feed value chain our customers rely on the accuracy of the information provided by FOSS
analytical solutions. With rapid and reliable measurements of crucial parameters, at-line and in-line, our
instruments and software allow you to leverage real-time production data and take action that saves costly
rework and wastage of valuable resources.

FOSS NIR solutions include instrumentation, calibrations, calibration development software, instrument
network software as well as instrumentation for wet chemistry reference methods. All solutions are sup-
ported by our global organisation.

Feed production

The more expensive the ingredients, the more important it becomes to control them. FOSS solutions are
used throughout the world to provide real-time data for feed production optimisation. This leads to cost
reductions and ensures consistent feed quality. The solutions are supported by the international premix
and additives companies providing calibrations and other services to the compound feed industry.

Feed ingredient manufacturing

Foss solutions cover a wide range of feed ingredient applications including meat and bone meal, fish
meal, soybean meal, DDGS and many others. Feed ingredient manufacturing can be optimised through
at-line or in-line measurement for continuous process control. For instance, protein and moisture
optimisation, reducing variability and producing closer to target will lead to considerable cost savings
and a fast return on investment.

Pet food production

Optimal use of raw materials and a tight control throughout production can lead to considerable
cost savings. FOSS solutions are designed to be placed at-line, close to production, or in-line, making
it possible to tightly control valuable parameters such as moisture, protein and fat. Our full range of
pet food analysis solutions cover both dry and wet food production from measurement of incoming
raw materials to the final product.

Feed and forage laboratory

The ISO 12099 standard opens up new possibilities for feed and forage testing laboratories to provide
certified analysis services based on near infrared (NIR). From a single installation to management of a
network of instruments, FOSS ensures success with any NIR application.

FOSS global feed and forage calibration models covering

all of the above business areas, typically include:
Fat, Protein, Moisture, Ash, Starch and Crude Fiber. Access to relevant reference analysis makes it possible
to develop additional calibrations for parameters such as Amino Acids, NDF, ADF, Colour and more.

designed for ease of use and can withstand even the toughest production environments.

NIRS DS2500/NIRS DS2500 F feed analysers

These highly versatile feed analysers are the best choice for optimal performance
and full flexibility in sample product type and parameters. They use highly accurate
optical NIR technology to give best-in-class performance across a broad wavelength
range of 400 to 2500 nm or 850-2500 nm. Regardless of whether you are testing
moisture, fat and protein or more demanding parameters such as amino acids,
ash or fibers, the NIRS DS2500 and DS2500 F delivers precision results in under a
minute. With these high performing instruments on your team, you can be sure
that you are getting the highest level of quality control at all stages of production.

The NIRS DS2500 and NIRS 2500 F can be pre-calibrated with global data for the
most common feed types and ingredients and is also 100% backwards compat-
ible with FOSS NIRSystem II solutions, InfraXact and XDS instruments. Its
compatibility makes it easy to leverage existing data and is the straightforward
migration path without any loss of performance.

STATE OF THE ART FEED GLOBAL CALIBRATIONS

FOSS has developed truly global calibrations using data collected from different
corners of the world. A special implementation of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)
enables the creation of large calibration models covering a wide measurement range
of multiple feed types and raw materials from different geographical origins. The
calibrations are regularly updated with new data to include variability from new
harvests, new raw materials and new geographical origins.

ANN TECHNOLOGY
ANN is the ideal technology for generating robust NIR calibrations and is particularly
suitable for complex applications such as feed, pet food and forage. ANN features
include:
Improved accuracy of up to 10-15% compared to PLS calibrations
Fewer calibrations needed to cover a wide range of feed and raw materials
Increased robustness and less work in adjusting and updating calibrations
Calibrations can be used from day one with only minor adjustments
Easier transferability between instruments

FACTORY STANDARDISED INSTRUMENTS

The latest FOSS NIR technology ensures the seamless transfer of calibrations, thereby
reducing development costs to a minimum. Instruments are matched with great
DirectSync
precision through basic hardware standardisations. This removes the need for time
consuming standardisation processes involving biological samples.

9
The simplest and safest way to
manage your feed NIR
Mosaic is a network system based on a central network database. Any operations such as calibra-
tion updates are recorded centrally so that they can be used again and again. For instance, it is a
great way of getting a number of instruments to all work the same, each one giving exactly the
same results across the board.

The central database also helps to make data freely available. For instance, if you are a manager
in the USA and need to look into the performance of an instrument in Brazil, you do not need to
think about an operator being at the other end of the line to pull out results and send them. You
can just log on to your Mosaic client and go to the instrument concerned to get a record of all the
test results. You can see all the samples, make reports, export the results and so on.

Another important aspect of the Mosaic central database is to do with data safety. With Mosaic,
customers are put on the central database so if something happens locally, the data is still available
by synchronising with the Mosaic database.

Some of the many other features and functions include report templates, reporting, and remote
software upgrades and trouble-shooting.
