Gender Equality

When it comes to having equality between both genders our society lacks in that area. Society
thinks that it's the men's job to lead us woman and to have and carry the most power.Men and
women not only vary in their degree of masculinity or femininity but have been constantly
persuaded or reminded to be masculine and feminine. That is, men and woman to do gender
rather than to be a gender.(Strong & Cohen, 2014, page 119). I think that woman can have as
much power as men because to me there is no such thing as gender roles because if a man
wants to do things that a woman would do such as be a stay at home father, cook, clean, and
do laundry that should be just fine and the same with a woman if she wants to be the provider
for her family then I don't see a problem with that. In my eyes both of these roles are very
important and should be done by either gender. Mostly gender equality is about woman being
like men is what society has named it but I think it's just women being and doing things that they
want to, thier goals that they want to achieve their goals and same with men who are trying to
be like women. Society only makes a big deal of women trying to be more like men the men
being more like women is because of how back in the 1913s women weren't allowed to do
many things and now that we have the ability to do things we are taking it to the fullest extent
and what I think most of society is trying to do is show and tell people that who they believe
should have that power or be in charge is men they don't feel that women should be trying to
step up and do a man's job which is false because if we as a society can have more women and
men leading and having power we can have more equality between both genders and not just
one. According to this theory, gender is a social construct, and idea or concept created by
society through the use of social power(Strong & Cohen, 2014, page 118). Society has its
impact on many things and genders is one of them through life people see u as of what you are
and how you act. People have their judgments on whether they want to accept you or not due to
how you are and what you believe. In this world today there will always be separation between
genders and sexuality. Society has given good and bad definitions to those and have made an
huge impact on many beliefs. Gender theory asserts that society may be understood by how it
is organized according to gender, and that social relationships are based on the socially
perceived differences between females and males that are used to justify unequal power
relationships (Scott 1986; White 1993). (Strong & Cohen, 2014, page 118).
