Data
Stud bolt Dia. = 20 mm

Strength of stud bolt

A 193 B7 = 80 to 105 KSI (yield)
100 to 125 KSI (tensile)

For bolting purpose the stress on the bolt shall be 50% of yield stress

Therefore,
= 50% x 80 + 105
2

= 50% x 92.5 KSI

= 46.25 KSI

Pressure,S = 46.25 KSI = 46250 PSI

(Stress)

S = F (Force applied to stud)

A (Cross-sectional area of stud)

Where, A = 314.16 mm2 = 0.487 in2

The Force to be applied in order to produce 46.3 KSI bolt is as below:

S = F (Force applied to stud)

A (Cross-sectional area of stud)

Therefore,
F = SxA
= 22521.29 Ibf
= 100.179708 KN

For 6" Riser Clamps, Pretensioning Requirement:

= 70 KN = 15736.62 Ibf

Therefore,
S = F (Force required applied to stud)
A (Cross-sectional area of stud)

= 32316.92 PSI (Use this pressure for impact wrench)

For 12" Riser Clamps, Pretensioning Requirement:

= 90 KN = 20232.80 Ibf

Therefore,
S = F (Force required applied to stud)
A (Cross-sectional area of stud)

= 41550.33 PSI (Use this pressure for impact wrench)
