UNIT: Shape and Form

LESSON: Sweets Drawing Practice

TIME: 45 minutes

LESSON DESCRIPTION:
Students will review geometric forms and practice drawing desserts/sweets in sketchbooks.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson students will draw several different kinds of sweets and using color,
line and shadow to create form in their sketchbooks.

MATERIALS:
Sweets Packet
Whiteboard/ Markers
Sketchbooks
Pencils
Colored Pencils

PROCEDURE:
1. Introduction/Demonstration
a. Students quiet and seated at their tables.
b. Review geometric forms and shadows on whiteboard.
c. Helpers distribute Sweets packet
d. Read through packet together and demonstrate a few sweets on whiteboard.
2. Studio Time
a. Students use packet to create a variety (minimum 4) of different sweets using
various geometric forms.
b. Teacher walks around and helps students, answers questions and encourages
success.
3. Closing
a. Ensure students understand lesson and answer any questions.
b. Preview next lesson.
c. Students return sketchbooks and pencils.

DIFFERENTIATION:
-ADHD- assigned seating: student seated at front and with focused drawing partner. Student
may move to extra table if desires a space quieter and/or prefers to work alone. Use checklist
to monitor progress and time management.
ASSESSMENT:

- Teacher walks around and observes students drawing.

TEACHER REFLECTION:

- Were the purpose and content of the lesson clear and promoted student learning?
- What went well and what problems did I encounter?
- What changes or adjustments need to be addressed for the future?
