LESSON: Wayne Thiebaud

TIME: 45 minutes

LESSON DESCRIPTION:
Students will follow watch video Behind the Scenes with Wayne Thiebaud: Line (1992) to
become familiar with his artwork and technique. Student will examine several examples of his
ice cream cones drawings and color the Ice Cream Handout in same style.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson, students will be familiar with artist Wayne Thiebaud and his use of
line and color to create form and shadow, and will complete the Ice Cream Handout.
MATERIALS:
Projector
Computer
Ice Cream handout
Crayons

PROCEDURE:
1. Introduction
a. Students quiet and seated at their tables.
b. Explain briefly final dessert drawing project
c. Introduce artist Wayne Thiebaud and connect his subject matter
d. Play video
2. Discussion/ Coloring
a. Recap important information about artist
b. Discuss with students how he creates form
c. Helpers distribute Ice Cream handout
d. Explain objectives of coloring handout
3. Closing
a. Ensure students understand lesson and answer any questions.
b. Students write name on back of handout and put in art folders.
c. Students return crayons
DIFFERENTIATION:

-ADHD- Assigned seating: student with ADHD placed at front table closest to projector screen
and other three students at table are quiet and show focused behavior. Checklist used to
check progress toward objectives for coloring.
ASSESSMENT:

- Questions/Discussion about artist to check understanding


- Teacher walks around and observes students coloring.

- What went well and what problems did I encounter?
