1. SCOPE

This specification covers the basic requirements for the design, fabrication
and testing of dry-type transformers, with a primary voltage not exceeding
6.9 kV and below 1500 kVA.

This specification is to be used jointly with the Material Requisition (MR) and
Data Sheet (DS). The Seller shall comply with requirements of this
specification. Should any conflict arises between this specification and the
DS, the DS shall take precedence. In the event of ambiguity of any portion
of the subject documents, it shall be the responsibility of the Seller to contact
the Buyer for clarification.

2. CODES AND STANDARDS

A. Unless noted otherwise, the design, fabrication, testing and


performance of the dry-type-power transformer shall be in
accordance with the latest International Electromechanical
Commission (IEC) recommendations and standards. The most
important publications relevant to the matter of this specification are :

Local codes and standards
Units, electrical terms and definitions used in this specification and to
be used by Seller, shall be in accordance with IEC recommendations:
IEC-60050 International Electrotechnical Vocabulary
IEC-60027 Letter symbols to be used in electrical
technology.
Electrical diagrams shall be with graphical symbols in accordance
with:
IEC-60617 Graphical symbols for electrical diagrams.
The equipment and materials furnished shall be labeled, listed,
certified, accepted or otherwise assured to be safe for the intended
use by an internationally recognized testing laboratory.
If there are, in the opinion of the Bidder, any conflicts between the
specified codes, the data sheets, and this specification, these
contradictions shall be brought to the attention of the Buyer.

C. Alternative Standards:

The offered transformers may conform to the standards of the


country of manufacture, provided these standards are based on, or
comply with IEC requirements. Each bidder proposing other
standards must specifically indicate all deviations from the above
codes.

D. The equipment and materials furnished shall be labeled, listed,


certified, accepted or otherwise determined to be safe for the use
intended by internationally recognized testing laboratories.

3. ENVIRONMENTAL SITE CONDITIONS

A. General

B. Some of the units shall be installed indoors and some shall be
installed outdoors (as indicated in MR). All equipment shall be
treated and packaged for tropical environment (even if intended for
indoor use), due to possible storage in an open area before
installation or air-conditioning failure. In addition, all necessary anti-
condensation space heaters shall be provided.

C. As indicated in the Material Requisition, some of the equipment shall


be installed indoors in mechanically cooled building environment
with following conditions :

Temperature range 26 oC +/-2 oC


Relative Humidity 50% +/-5%
Slight positive pressure

D. If mechanical cooling fails, equipment shall withstand without any


damage and degrading a temperature of 35 oC and 78% relative
humidity

E. If this equipment is installed outdoors, then the equipment shall be


able to operate continuously in the site climatic conditions specified
above at the rated values given in the relevant document

4. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. The transformer cores are to be constructed of high grade, non-aging


silicon steel laminations with high magnetic permeability and low
hysteresis and eddy current losses. Magnetic flux densities are to be
kept well below the saturation point. The core laminations shall be
clamped together with heavy, structural steel angles. The coils shall
be wound of electrical grade aluminum with continuous wound
construction.

B. Dry-type transformers for indoor locations, as specified in MR shall


have an enclosure (min. IP 31) constructed of heavy duty sheet metal
which shall be degreased, primed with a rust inhibiting primer, and
finished with manufacturers standard paint or by electrostatic
deposition of a thermosetting polyester powder coating and
subsequent baking, whichever provides better protection. All
ventilation openings shall be protected against falling debris.

C. Dry-type transformers for outdoor locations as specified in MR, shall


have an enclosure (min. IP 54) constructed of heavy duty sheet metal
which shall be degreased, primed with a rust inhibiting primer,
finished with a coat of cross-linking epoxy coating or by electrostatic
deposition of a thermosetting polyester powder coating and
subsequent baking, whichever provides better protection and shall be
suitable for a corrosive atmosphere as indicated.

D. The enclosure shall all be provided with suitable lifting means,


additionally, jacking and lifting provisions shall be provided on all
units. All seams shall be continuously welded and ground to a
smooth finish. Color shall be manufacturers standard.

E. The enclosure is to have adequate surface area to limit maximum


temperature rise of the enclosure to 65 oC above a 40 oC ambient at
full load and rated voltage.

F. The kVA sizes and voltage shall be as indicated in the Data Sheet
and MR. Primary taps shall be full capacity, 5% above and below
rated voltage in 2.5% steps, by means of load- tap changing. Primary
taps shall be included only when is clearly indicated in Data Sheet.

G. All transformers shall have a maximum full load temperature rise of


115 oC (80C rise) above a 40C ambient with a 15% continuous
overload (80C rise transformers with a continuous 30% overload)
without exceeding a 150C rise. Required performance must be
obtained without exceeding the above rise in a 40C maximum, 30C
average ambient temperature. All insulating materials used shall have
a minimum 220C system rating for 15 kVA and above and 185C for
less than 15 kVA. All insulating materials shall be flame retardant and
shall not support combustion. The encapsulating resin shall have a
minimum temperature system rating of 180C.

H. Transformer sound levels shall not exceed the following levels for
self-cooled ratings and where contradictions arise with IEC 60076-10,
the more conservative shall govern:

I. When electrostatic shielding is specified in DS, the shield, consisting


of a single turn of aluminum, shall be placed between the primary and
secondary winding and grounded to the transformer core.

J. Dry-type transformers, when required for non linear loads, shall be


specifically designed to supply circuits with a harmonic profile equal

to or less than a K-factor 4 or 13 as described below without


exceeding 115 oC temperature rise :

K. The transformer primary and secondary shall be connected with


cables. The size, type and number shall be specified in the DS. The
manufacturer shall provide cable glands on the protective enclosure.
The cable gland supports shall be of a non-magnetic material.

L. Each transformer shall be provided with two grounding terminals on


the transformer base.

M. Transformer lifetime shall be at least thirty (30) years the time


between maintenance shall be at least (5) years.

N. The neutral point shall be brought and isolated under full voltage.

O. The short-circuit withstand shall be at least one second, unless stated


otherwise in DS, without any problem and with the normal, full load
temperature at a 40 oC ambient temperature.

P. Unless otherwise approved by the Buyer, LV/LV transformers peak


switching current shall be limited to 7 times the rated current. Tests
shall be carried out at the Sellers factory to verify that this condition
is complied with.

Q. Transformers shall be provided with four orientable rollers.

5. NAMEPLATE DATA

A. Nameplates shall be of stainless steel and be permanently fixed to a


non-removable part of the transformer.

B. In addition to the minimum amount of information to be given on


transformer nameplates as covered by IEC 60076-11, the following
information shall also be given:

a) Connection Diagrams
b) Details of tappings
c) Purchase order number
d) Date of manufacture
e) Transformer tag number
f) Manufacturer name

6. TESTS

A. Tests shall be performed by the Seller at the Sellers facility as per


IEC 60076-11. Before leaving the manufacturing facility, each
transformer shall have been inspected and the results recorder in a
test report.

B. All transformers shall be subject to the tests as called for in IEC


60076-11, and in addition, the following tests shall be performed :

a) Ratio tests at the rated voltage connection and at all tap


connections
b) Polarity and phase relation tests on the rated voltage
connection.

C. Type testing is not required for each transformer. A certificate of


similar transformer type is acceptable.

D. Inspection and witness testing of transformer by Buyer is at the


discretion of the Buyer.

7. VENDOR DOCUMENTS TO BE SUPPLIED

A. Information required from the Seller shall be as listed below but not
limited to :

f) Load loss at 50, 75 & 100% of self-cooled rating

h) Core, coil and complete transformer weight

l) Transformer descriptions

B. The seller shall submit the detail drawings with dimensions and
recommended location, test reports, installation manual, instruction
manuals of operation and maintenance. All vendor documents shall
be in Spanish.
