Experiment No.4
Three-Phase half wave Uncontrolled Rectifier

Objective
The aim of this experiment is to design and analysis of a full-wave three phase
uncontrolled rectifier.

Equipment required:

1. 3-phase 415V/50Hz input supply.

2. Three transformers each 230V/6V.
3. Three Power diodes.
4. Resistive load (R=50).
5. CRO (dual channel oscilloscope)
6. Voltammeter and one Ammeter.
7. Patch cords (connection wires)

The circuit of a three-phase bridge rectifier is shown in Fig.1. The diodes are numbered
in the order of conduction sequences and the conduction angle of each diode is 120
degrees. The conduction sequence for diodes is 12, 23, 34, 45, 56, and 61. The voltage
waveform of the three-phase bridge rectifier are shown in Fig.2.
The average value of the output can be found as:
3 3 V m
V dc = =1.654 V m

PROCEDURE:
1. Identify the needed components.
2. Connect the three phase half wave rectifier circuit shown in Fig. (1) on the power
electronic trainer.
3. Make sure that the connection is right.
4. Switch on the power supply.
5. Measure the average output voltage by connecting the Voltmeter across load
resistance and put the value in the observation table below.
6. Measure the average output current by connecting the Ammeter in series with the
load resistance and put the value in the observation table below.
7. Observe the I/P & O/P waveforms on CRO.
8. Switch off the power supply.
