Dosage, Route, and Frequency: 100 mg PO BID

Mechanism of Action: Produce antipsychotic effect by antagonizes dopamine and

serotonin type 2 in the CNS

Desired Effect: It is given to the patient to decrease manifestation of psychoses such as

delusion and to stabilize mood.

Management: Provide safety
precautions for the patient
and never leave the patient
unattended.

To ensure proper administration of the
drug / to ensure that medication is taken
and not hoarded or cheeked
To prevent possible undesirable effect
when the drug is combined to other drug,
such as anticholinergic drugs which can
potentiate the drug side effect;
antihypertensive and CNS depressant
drug can cause hypotension and also
decreases the absorption of the drug
hence, it decreases the drug therapeutic
effect; fluovoxamine which can decrease
the olanzapine clearance hence drug
toxicity may occur due to increased
accumulation and decreased clearance of
the drug; omeprazole and rifampicin that
can increases the the olanzapine
clearance hence it decreases the drug
therapeutic effect
-The patient will know what to expect after
the drug is given, thus it will decrease her
anxiety and to promote compliance in
taking the drug.
-Providing a safe environment to the
patient decrease the risk of accidents.
 Management: Encourage
patient to increase bulk or -To moisturize the mucosa of the mouth
fluids in the diet, and to promote peristalsis
