Licence must for private security agencies

The State government has directed all the private security agencies to obtain licences from the Home Department.

The government has set a deadline of 90 days for applying for licences, and agencies not complying with the guidelines would
be liable for action. No person shall carry on or commence the business of private security agency unless he holds a licence
issued under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, Principal Secretary (Home Department) T.P. Das said.

In a press release, he said the Centre had enacted the law to regulate the functioning of the private agencies and ensure that
they operated professionally within legal parameters and proper accountability. The State had issued necessary rules in 2009
accordingly designating a special secretary rank officer as controlling authority to grant licences to all private security
agencies besides, provisions for proper background checks and training.

Amendments made
The rules could, however, be not implemented so far on account of certain procedural/administrative difficulties. These were
addressed after wide ranging consultations with stakeholders and suitable amendments were made to AP Private Security
Agencies Rules with effect from December 17, he said.

Action to be taken against the agencies, which do not apply for licences within 90 days
