JOB DESCRIPTION:

Staff Nurse
I. Safe and Quality Nursing Care
Utilizes the nursing process as a framework for nursing.
1. Performs the comprehensive and systematic nursing assessment.
2. Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with patients and other
members of the health team.
3. Prioritizes nursing actions to ensure effective and safe nursing care.
4. Performs all nursing interventions safely, effectively, and in a timely
manner.
5. Administers medications and other health therapeutics that conform to
the 10 golden rules.
6. Responds immediately according to the urgency of the patients
condition.
7. Evaluates progress towards expected outcome.
8. Documents accurately the observations and services rendered to the
patients.
9. Communicates in a manner that is empowering to the clients.
II. Heath Education
1. Assesses the learning needs of the patient and family.
2. Recognizes the potential for health teaching in nursing interventions.
3. Develops health education plan based on assessed and anticipated
needs.
4. Conducts discharge planning with patient, family and health team.

I. Patient Care Management:
1. Assigns duties and coordinates with the Nursing service department.
2. Evaluates Nursing activities to ensure patient care, staff relation, and
efficiency of the services.
3. Conduct Nursing Patients Rounds to ensure that nursing care is
carries out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance
with physicians instructions.
4. Supervises preparation and maintenance of patients clinical records.
5. Conducts Nursing Patients Rounds in their respective unit assigned.
6. Supervise the Nursing Staff in her/his unit in performing Nursing
procedure.
7. Conducts daily Pre-Conference to Nursing Staff in the absence of the
Nursing Supervisor.
8. Performs the functions as a Staff nurse on duty in his/her absence.
9. Supervises the requisition and preparation of drugs, solutions, and
equipment, and maintains records on narcotics.
10. Ensures inventory of supplies in the area per shift.
11. Investigates and resolves complaints from patients and physicians and
reports to the supervisor.
12. Ensures completion of chart documents.
13. Ensures that the Total Quality of service toward patients care is
rendered during his/her tour of duty.
II. Personal Management:
1. Participates in orientation and training of personnel.
2. Directs arrangement of schedule of work hours of nursing personnel
due to unplanned absence in the unit.
3. Evaluates work accomplished by each nursing employee in the ward.
4. Investigates and resolves complaints of staff, or refers unusual
problems to supervisor.
5. Counsels staff nurses, nurse attendants/midwives and ward men
which is done individually.
6. Maintains harmonious relationships and self-discipline by nursing
personnel under his/her supervision.
7. Attend The Regular Monthly Nursing Services Meeting and unplanned
meeting that calls for immediate action.
