Executive Summary
This research report was provided to identify the Students satisfaction and dissatisfaction
towards central library of Comilla University. Library has become so important that renowned
scholars judged the quality of education by the quality library service in the university. But in
todays scenario the position of the library in the academic institution does not seem to be the
same. The results obtained from the experiment have great impact on central Library
evaluation in context of students satisfaction. The result from the research experiment was
acceptable. Some factors are acting perfectly in producing satisfaction and some need special
consideration. At the beginning of this study deals about the background of the study, statement
of the problem, objective, scope, research design with structured open-ended question, Data
collection/framework, Data analysis etc. The appropriate hypotheses will be discussed within
each subsection. The most significant finding was that most of survey respondents stated the
main reason they choose to study at the library is for quiet study space and the location and
closing time. The focus of the study on why it is necessary to know about the resources using
pattern among the students and what aspects encourages and discourages the users to use library
resources. At the end some recommendations are given and further study is suggested to have
a better idea about satisfaction.
Introduction:
A library is an organized collection of sources of information and similar resources, made
accessible to a defend community for reference or borrowing. The library must have a thorough
knowledge of the users needs. Without knowing the information needs of its users it is difficult
to provide effective and efficient service to them. University library considered as a power house
of information and knowledge and acts as a transformer and transmits this power to students
scholars, teachers, resources. The central library of Comilla University has not received much
attention from the student as the library has so many problems. . There are Some significant
problem and how could we overcome those problems is shown in the research. Like the lack of
logistic support and how to solve it. Problems which are also associated with opening and
closing time, lack of internet service, space is too short for study and environment.

Objectives of the study


To find out the effectiveness of library resources in their education.
To know what problem students are facing in library.
To know the students perception towards the library.

Problem definition:
The role of library in academic organizations is very much important for the students. The
purpose of this study is to analyze current trends in the libraries facilities for the students, with a
focus on how students learn from the library. To upgrade the quality of the students and literacy
development library facilities should be upgraded too. But in Comilla University central library
facilities are very much inefficient. We have identified some problems regarding library facilities
of Comilla University. These are- number of books on each subject are not adequate, books kept
here are not upgraded, opening and closing time is too short, location is very much far from all
the departments, no internet service facilities, less skilled librarians and so on. To understand the
background of this research problem, we must understand the library facilities of Comilla
University first. Then we must analyze the factors that have an impact on the definition of this
problem. The factors can be- Past information & forecast, Resources and constraints related with
the administration, environment and technological skills etc.
Approach to the Problem:
The facility problems of library of Comilla University define the problems in specific terms,
further detail may be needed to develop an approach to these problems. But in the process of
developing an approach to these problems, we must concentrate on how to develop students
quality through minimizing problems regarding Comilla University library facilities. For
developing an approach to the problem I use a kind of analytical model like verbal model that
provide a written representation of the relationship between variables. Here also used the
graphical model. And formulate a hypotheses related with the research question.

Some of these research question and hypotheses are-

RQ-1. Is there any adequacy of books?


H0- There is no adequacy of books.
H1- There is adequacy of books.

RQ-2. Do you aware about the Library facilities of Comilla University?


H0- I am not aware about the library facilities of Comilla University.
H1- I am aware about the library facilities of Comilla University.

Research Design
For conducting the research design I take exploratory research design. The method used for this
research is in-depth interview. The total sample size is 20. And I select sample to collect the
data about the information of Library facilities from 20 student of Comilla university area. In
depth interview I use laddering, hidden questioning. This depth-interview helps me to result in
free exchange of information. And it provides to gain an insight and understanding.

Sources of Data:

Primary Data Collection:

Data is collect primary data through questionnaire method. A survey has been conducted on
the measuring the library facilities of Comilla University. I collected information from Comilla
University area, comilla. Respondents are those students who were familiar with the library
and its service and had been using the library resources for their studying purpose .

There is no use of secondary data.


Data collection:
For this study, a structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data. we took into
consideration the peoples understanding and eliminated our professional bias to the
questions. For collecting data at first we divided our group with individual people for collecting
some information about the library facilities of Comilla University. We made a structured
Questionnaire with 13 questions were prepared focusing on the use of library resources the
questionnaire would provide an opportunity for respondent to answer at their own leisure. These
13 direct open-ended questions placed which are very precise with the library facilities of
Comilla University. And the questionnaire method is hand-to-hand or face-to-face.

Data Analysis:
After identifying research design, sampling process, questionnaire, survey methods, sample size
and sampling techniques, now it is time for data analysis. Data in the form of questionnaire have
been collected, edited, coded for data analysis. In this section, we will analyze all the datas and
informations that we has been collected from previous steps including from exploratory
research, asking questions and gathering information from the respondents through in-depth
interviews. This in-depth interview took approximately 25 to 30 minutes to complete. By
executing the in-depth interview it was possible to modify and make the proper corrections
needed to achieve a more complete and accurate survey to be administered. No advance
Statistical tools were used for this study. We have used for analysis a very simple and non-
technical procedure.
Results:
The role of the library should satisfy a need for an environment that cultivates student
collaboration. The design will expand the space for users. Because of limited space the library
had to choose between more workstations that did not fit users needs. Based on the survey done
among the student of Comilla University, this study has found following results:

1. Most of the respondents who are students want widening and broadening space for their
library as the space of central library of Comilla University is too short.
2. Most of the students want updated adequate book with latest edition from different
writters.
3. Student want that the central library should be in different building as the present library
of comilla university is far away from every department. So the student dont want to
show their interest on go to the library annd study.
4. Maximum student want internet service in the library. That will help them to get more
study related information by using technology.
5. Most of the student want that the closing time of central library should be increased from
5 pm to 8 pm. This will help them to get more time for study.
Conclusion

The trend of library facilities in Comilla University central library needs to be re-evaluated.
While the student learning commons in this case study was being used throughout the observed
times, survey results showed that it was not the most widely used space nor the study space most
desired by students. Without gathering the appropriate research on how students use the space,
current efforts in library design are not being focused on the spaces that would have the most
impact on students. The interiors spaces within libraries are also not being designed in a way that
promotes students ideal study environment. However, research has shown that efforts to satisfy
the needs of all users have gone too far in the direction of location of the library. The results
clearly show that while students attitudes and behaviors are diverse, they clearly seek power,
large workspace, privacy, and a quiet work environment in the library. The research conducted
reveals a need to design how to improve the facilities to work well on a personal and human
level. On a functional level the space must be quiet, allow for students to plug in their personal
laptop, and a certain level of control over other environmental aspects such as lighting and
furniture arrangement.

Recommendation

1. Library should focus on being more adequate resource.

2. Librarian should be more co-operative, friendly and helpful.

3. Libraries should consider more internet services for getting the updated important information.

4. Ensure there are sufficient networked computers available for students.

5. The space for the library must be broadening. It will be good if there is a different building for
the central library.

6. The central library wont be so far from every department.

7. The closing time should be increased from 5pm to 8pm. so that student can get more time for
study.

8. Number of books and infrastructural facilities should be increased.
