Cultural Artifact Speech

Buongiorno, e un piacere essere qui dinanzi a voi oggi. Oggi volevo parlare di multiculturalismo.

Good afternoon, it is a pleasure to be here speaking to you. Today I wanted to talk about
multiculturalism.

I will not be presenting only a culture, but rather the advantages brought by living it. I believe that
knowing different cultures is a great edge in life, especially in everyday relationships.

My culture is the culture of the Ancient Romans and the thinkers of the Renaissance, the Italian culture.
I was born in Italy and living there for seventeen years I have always lived by the customs of my city,
Rome, the Eternal City. It is a very different place and a very different culture.

Being immersed in both American and Italian culture and a bit of Mexican culture too has helped me in
many ways and knowing different cultures will help you too in many ways, be it finding direction while
traveling, helping a customer at work, or just enjoying the different points of view that exist in the
world.

First of all knowing different cultures means knowing different languages, a lifesaver when traveling.
English is in fact the most used language for official affairs all over the world, but knowing Spanish or
Italian in the right place at the right time can get things done a lot better. It is common for Italians,
French, or Spanish to help each other when abroad, and knowing the language helps you connect to
people.

Knowing different languages can help not only when traveling but also in day to day communications,
especially in a place as varied as LA. Having picked up Spanish helps me a lot at work as I can offer a
better service and act as a translator for my manager, which is helping climb the corporate ladder.

This bouncing between cultures has also sparked an interest in other cultures, like Korean and Japanese,
which I am currently trying to learn, in the hopes it will help me someday if I ever decide to move there.
I feel learning different cultures makes me a better, more complete person, as I now have a lot more
paths to follow in life.

However there are downsides, but theyre not as bad as you may think, and it depends on where you
live and how old you are. Sometimes you may feel distant and different, and I felt like that when I was in
grade school, but other times people will look up to you and tell you how lucky you are to be so unique.
And that is simply awesome.

In conclusion immersing yourself in different culture and knowing the language will help you both while
in traveling situations and every day, whether helping others or bettering yourself. For those of you who
are like me, raised between cultures, you know how cool it is.

I encourage all of you to find interest in another culture, if not to live it, at least to learn the language, as
it will come in handy more often than you think. Buona Fortuna!
