Technology, while apparently aimed to simplify our lives, only makes our lives more

complicated.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree
with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In
developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the
statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape
your position.

Although Technology helps us to solve our problems and at times, make our lives easier, it does
more harm than good. No wonder everything should be operated at its optimal point and once that
optimal point is crossed, it starts to impact in a negative manner. The exact same is true for
Technology and Gadgets as well.

First, there are so many gadgets that are available today that make us lethargic and not want to do
the assigned work ourselves. This only leads to the development of an inertia wherein people
eventually forget to do their deliverables, themselves. For instance, children and teenagers tend to
use iPhones and other kinds of fancy gadgets to kill their time when instead they could spend their
time doing the much needed physical activities. This will only deteriorate their health over a longer
period of time. Also, school and university going students tend to take help from online resources to
do their homework. This makes them not to think for themselves and would ultimately demolish
their critical thinking skills.

Second, the parents have become much more disconnected from their children. It could be seen
now that more and more parents would text their children and many days would pass by when a
parent has not spoken to his or her child. The technological advancements have risen sociological
disconnectedness. People earlier would go and meet their friends in person but now the very same
people would just connect with each other on a video conferencing tool. The rise of gadgets and
internet has, for sure, impacted the routine of in-person contacts.

Finally, more often than not, the hand-held devices and computers that we are using harm us in an
insidious manner. The harmful radiations from mobile phones, the strain in the eyes caused by
gluing to our computer monitors for a prolonged period of time are the examples of such harmful
effects. No wonder there are more health issues and the demand for doctors has been increasing
ever since because essentially everything is now automated and people just don't want to leave
their seats!

It would be emotionally immature to only consider the negatives of Technological developments

and ignore the positives. Only because of advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
have we been able to predict and diagnose cancer at its premature stage. Due to an efficient
transportation network of Airplanes and Trains could we reach thousands of miles away to meet our
near and dear ones. Through a technically coded software, could students take the test online and
help conserve the environment by not consuming paper. For students, such a vast repository of
educational content is available online and we are about to, finally, reach the goal of free education
for all. This has only been possible because of industrialization, automation, and computerization of
almost all the conventional process we might be able to think of.

Hence, in conclusion, I would like to summarize by commenting that the Technological advances
should be followed keeping in mind about the health of our future generations and also about our
natural environment. Otherwise, Technology would have far more negatives than positives.

SuperCorp recently moved its headquarters to Corporateville. The recent surge in

the number of homeowners in Corporateville proves that Corporateville is a superior
place to live than Middlesburg, the home of SuperCorp's current headquarters.
Moreover, Middleburg is a predominately urban area and according to an employee
survey, SuperCorp has determined that its workers prefer to live in an area that is
not urban. Finally, Corporateville has lower taxes than Middlesburg, making it not
only a safer place to work but also a cheaper one. Therefore, Supercorp clearly
made the best decision.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of
the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions
and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted.

The argument has a fallacious structure due to numerous reasons. The argument has been
constructed upon a weak assumption about the economics of Corporateville and Middleburg which
would render the main conclusion that SuperCorp has made the best decision to move its
headquarters to Corporateville, as invalid.

First, there is no indication regarding the surge in the number of homeowners in Corporateville in
"comparison" to the population dynamics in Middleburg. It might be the case that there has been a
uniform surge throughout the country. Also, it could happen that the surge in Middleburg is less
than the surge in Corporateville. We would need to analyze the population dynamics of the both the
cities in terms of both, the current population and the rate of change of population.

Second, there is no indication of how much of the area of Corporateville is urban and how much of it
is rural. It might be the case that urban region of Corporateville is greater in proportion than for
Middleburg. Also, the survey could be biased. It should be re-inspected whether the survey was
uniform/unbiased or biased. If it was biased, then the decision should be signaled on hold and a
fresh survey must be taken.

Third, the kinds of taxes are many. It is not clearly mentioned regarding which taxes they are talking
about. If only a particular kind of taxes are low, then we need to consider the tax rates for all the
categories otherwise it might happen that the net tax rate is even more for Corporateville than for
Middleburg. Also, there is a slight correlation, if not at all, between tax rates and safety of a given
place. They have correlated lower tax rates with higher safety, which is clearly flawed.

Finally, there are many other small factors that one needs to keep in mind while relocating its
headquarters. It could be linked with the competitive environment of the latter place. If the
competition is fierce then it might not be a well-informed decision to relocate your headquarters.
Also, the customers' analysis needs to be performed for the latter place. Last but not the least, the
firm should also analyze the costs of land and capital while relocating its offices to a new location.

Hence, in conclusion, it can be remarked that the argument's conclusion has been built on a weak
theory/hypothesis that the surge in the number of homeowners in Corporateville, the predominance
of urban area in Middleburg, and lower taxes in Corporateville implies to the fact that SuperCorp
must move its headquarters to Corporateville.
