1.INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC

Figure 1: Aerial view of the Papineau-Leblanc Bridge, North America

1.1 WHAT IS A CABLE STAYED BRIDGE?

A bridge in which the weight of the deck is supported by a number of cables running directly to one or
more towers. The speciality of these kind of bridges is that they are both structurally strong and
aesthetically amazing.

1.2 TYPES OF CABLE STAYED BRIDGE.

Based on the no of planes of cables.

Based on the pattern of anchorage of cables at the tower level.

1.2.1 BASED ON NUMBER OF PLANES.

SINGLE PLANE CABLE STAYED BRIDGE

DOUBLE PLANE CABLE STAYED BRIDGE.

1.2.2 BASED ON THE PATTERN OF ANCHORAGE OF CABLES AT TOWER LEVEL.

2. REQUIREMENTS OF THE BRIDGE ASSUMED BY US.
2.1 DECK.

The deck length: 85 cm.

The deck width: 25 cm.
Material used for deck: PLYWOOD.
Type of anchorage at deck: GIRDER type.
Interval of anchorage of cables: 11 cm.

2.2 PYLON.

The pylon height: 153 cm nearly equal to 150 cm. (theoretically= 1.8 times the deck span.)
The pylon division: 90 cm above deck and 60 cm below deck.
The pylon side dimensions: 4 cm x 6 cm below the deck and 2.4 cm x 2.4 cm above the deck.
Interval of anchorage of cables: 4 cm.

2.3 CABLES.

AVERAGE diameter of the cables: 3 mm.

Arrangement of cables at the tower: Fan arrangement. ( theoretically the strongest )
Source for cables: The bicycle or motor cycle brake wires with a bulged end used as anchorage
at the tower level.

2.4 OTHERS.

HOOKS, CLAMPS, ANGLES.

NUTS AND BOLTS.
CUTTING PLIAR.
HAMMER.
NAILS (2 AND 0.5 INCHES).
THERMOCOL.
TAPES.
SCREWS.

the whole bridge and opposing it from toppling over.

4. CONCLUSION.
THIS WAS REALLY A GOOD EXPERIENCE MAKING THE MODEL OF THE CABLE
STAYED BRIDGE. WE BEING JUST THE BEGINNERS IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE
BRIDGE, STRIVED HARD TO COLLECT AS MUCH AS DETAILS ABOUT THE
PRACTICALLY CONSTRUCTED CABLE STAYED BRIDGES AS POSSIBLE BY US
WITH THE READILY AVAILABLE JOURNAL PAPERS AND RESEARCH WORKS ON
THIS CABLE STAYED BRIDGE OVER THE INTERNET. WE GOT TO KNOW THE
SPECIALITY OF EACH AND EVERY GUY IN OUR GROUP AFTER HAVING THEIR
CONTRIBUTION OF THEIR CREATIVITY IN THE MAKING OF THE MODEL. I THANK
VIKAS SIR FOR PROVIDING US THE GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY OF KNOWING EACH
OTHERS CREATIVITY AND MAKING US INDULDGE IN SUCH A DREAM PROJECT OF
MINE.
