The Significance and Importance of Temples in Hinduism: -

In Hinduism, temples have several sacred purposes. For one, it acts as a

link between the human being and God. As an earthly seat of God, the
deity of the temple is an epitome of divinity thus helping humans to grasp
the infinite in a form that is best-suited to their vision and applicability.
Here, God can be approached, divinity can be experienced and divine
knowledge can be amassed.

A site of the temple is built according to the Shastras and is defined by

the presence of a particular God form. The temple attracts several
pilgrims who also indirectly contribute to the economy of that particular
town. Significant economic and cultural growth of a place is clearly
visible when a temple enjoys an influx of pilgrims throughout the year.
People gather in the Mandapas or halls of the temple for religious
discourses and other spiritual discussions. Besides, the temples also
function as public utility areas. For example, the presence of a tank helps
in the collection of rain water and people can avail of the reservoir of
water.
It is believed that all the cosmic elements are present in a temple and it is
symbolic of the connection between everything. Spaces are
mathematically structured and there is a grand display of art with
carvings and statues that celebrate all the principles of human life.

The secular and sacred are undivided in Hinduism and the same spirit is
displayed in the Hindu temples as well.
