Oil is a curse rather than a blessing for Iran

Despite of huge energy reserve and a prominent position of the map but this Islamic

republic is not seeming to be lucky. The Middle East countries are in great dangers from the

super powers because of natural wealth. In the beginning of twentieth century British

entrepreneurs bought oil from shah of Iran and in return gave him huge amount of money. They

dig out the oil from Iran. They were aware about the techniques of digging out oil. Iran did not

understand the value of the natural wealth. During First World War, British Government send its

forces to the southwest part of Iran to save the oil reserves from the Ottoman armies and from the

locals allied to the central powers. Similarly, in Second World War Britain invade Iran and Iraq

to safe the oil reservoirs. But their primary aim was different behind this invasion.

From 1949, the oil industry in Iran grew. The First Development Plan was approved by

Majlis in (1948-1955). This was a plan for getting large revenue. Iranian were politically aware

that British will provide finance in return of oil. In result get more revenue from the

concessionaire, The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). But this company was unsuccessful in

its functions.

In September 1951, Britain froze the export of oil from Iran. But the courts ordered in the favor

of the Iran. Later Majlis voted to make Iran nationalize the oil industry. British again gave the

offer between Iran and AIOC but the dispute became unsettled was because of pressure of United

States. This lead to the excitement of anti-British. Iran rejected the offers. This result the loss of

economy of Iran as its foreign exchange was stopped.

This situation leads to the economic and political chaos and this cause ultimate

intervention of the United States. These things create the blessing into curse for the people of

Iran. Iran has the blessing of God but they dont know how to manage this blessing. The rate of
unemployment is high, inflation is double, unpredictable oil prices like rise and fall of oil price.

Iran still need a market in other things also. This country is fully mismanaged. Lack of political

representation cause oil sale decline. Many Yemenis, Egyptian and Jordanian workers moved to

Persian Gulf and Libya.

The tragedy of oil bloom not only harm the industrial nations and suffer the poor

countries but its impacts are shocking and distressed. Many neighboring countries experience the

curse of oil wealth. These reservoirs are apparently beneficiaries for Iranian.

Iran has also other natural wealth that cannot be ignored. Like uranium. This wealth also

tempted the President Ahmadinejad and he called Iran power house on global level. Thus, mock

the Islamic republic in front of global world. Iran has vastly arable land, instead of an oil and

gas. That could create better social, economic and political situation of Iran. Iran still need

foreign export that can increase the economy of Iran.
