CourseDescription:
TheessentialpurposeofHonorsWorldLiteratureistopreparestudentstoenterglobaldiscoursefromaninformedposition.Asan
acceleratedcourse,thisclassfocusesonthedevelopmentofcriticalthinking,writing,vocabulary,andresearchskillsthatareessential
forstudentspreparingforAdvancedPlacementEnglishcourses.BecausethecurriculumpaceexceedsthatfoundintheWorld
LiteratureAdvancedsection,studentsshouldbepreparedtoworkindependentlyonavarietyoflongrangeassignmentsinliterature
andcomposition.Additionally,studentsinthisclassshouldpossessastrongdesiretoproduceworkofthehighestquality.

CourseGoals:
Writing
Writetoacquireknowledge,clarifythinking,synthesizeinformation,improvestudyskills,gainconfidence,andenhance
lifelongcommunication.
Writefrequentlyforavarietyofpurposessuchasnarration,description,persuasion,exposition,andpersonal,creative
expression.
Demonstrateeffectivewritingstylewiththeuseofvividwords,variedsentencestructure,andappropriatetransitions.
RecognizeanddemonstrateknowledgeofstandardEnglishlanguage:usage,mechanics,spelling,andsentencestructure.
Researchinformationfromvarioussourcesandpreparepresentationsorreportswhichusesummarizing,paraphrasing,direct
quotations,citationofsources,andbibliographicsources.
Reading
Developanunderstandingofandrespectformulticultural,gender,andethnicdiversityinlanguageuse,patterns,and
dialects.
Improvecomprehensionbyinterpreting,analyzing,synthesizing,andevaluatingwrittentext.

quizwithin5schooldays.IdeallythestudentshouldseeMr.Jacksonaboutschedulingamakeupsessiononthedayhe/shereturnsto
school.Important:HWand/orclassworkassignedordueonthedayastudentisabsentmustbeturnedinelectronicallyoronthe

ClassTribes:EachofMr.JacksonsWorldLiteratureclasseswillbebrokenintofourtribes.Whiletribeactivitiesand
participationwillnotalwaysdirectlyaffectthestudentsgradeintheclass,playinganactiveroleinthelearningcommunityasa
memberofatribewillhaveapositiveimpactonhis/hereducationalexperiencethissemester.Additionalinformationaboutthetribe

**Asidefromthesemajorunitsofstudy,activities/contentcoveredduringthefirstsemesterofHonorsWorldLiteratureinclude
paragraphandessaywriting,grammarpractice,PSATpreparation,vocabularyinstruction(units19),andcreativewriting

Studentsareexpectedtocompletetheirownwork.Anyassignmentnotexplicitlydefinedasacollaborativeassignmentby
theteacherisanindividualassignment.Groupassignmentswillbeindicatedbytheteacherassuch.Thelevelof
collaborationallowedalongwithanyotherspecificruleswillbedelineatedbytheinstructor.Exchangeofworkthroughany
