Learning Competency: Explain the text in terms of literary elements. (EN12Lit-IIb-32)

I. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students will be able
to:
a. Explain the text in terms of literary elements through brainstorming
b. Appreciate the meaning of the poem through a cooperative activity

II. Subject Matter/Content: Basic textual and contextual reading approach in the
study and appreciation of literature

Springboard: Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare


Reference:
Materials: hand outs, PowerPoint, Laptop, LCD
Strategies: Brainstorming, Cooperative Leaning (Speech Choir)

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Arrangement of chairs
3. Checking of attendance

B. Review
The teacher would give a quick review on literary genres, traditions,
and forms from different national literature and cultures.

C. Lesson Proper
a. Motivation
The teacher would flash on the screen a picture of Romeo and Juliet
and ask the students what they knew about their love story.

b. Unlocking of Difficult Terms


The students would perform a board work. They would match the
difficult words to the statement they refer to by pasting the term besides its
corresponding meaning.

c. Presentation
The teacher would show a picture of William Shakespeare and ask the
students if they knew whos in the picture.
d. Discussion
The teacher gives some details about the author and the background of
the poem.

e. Developmental Activity
The students would be grouped into 5 and brainstorm on the concept of
Sonnet 116 in terms of literary elements.

f. Synthesizing
The students would report the output of their brainstorming based on a
given rubric.

g. Generalization
The teacher would sum up the details of the output of the students and
give comments and corresponding score.

IV. Evaluation
By group, the students would present the theme of the poem in a form of a
speech choir basing on a given rubric.

V. Assignment
Allow the students to research other sonnets of William Shakespeare.
