I have lived for the last twenty-seven years in Kernersville with my husband, Joe, who
is an attorney. Currently I direct a volunteer group called The Blackwell Singers at
Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville. I am also a substitute choir
director for the church, and I sub for other directors in the area. I am a member of
numerous community groups and am active in the American Choral Director's As-
ACDA sociation, The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship, and the
Musical Arts Guild at UNCG. I also sing in Bel Canto, the Choral Society of
Advocacy Greensboro, Piedmont Opera, and Greensboro Opera, as well as my church choirs.

Sally K. Albrecht is the Director of School Choral and Classroom Publi- NC ACDA

FALL CONFERENCE
Anton Armstrong is the Harry R. and Thora H. Tosdal Professor of Music at St. Olaf Col-
lege and Conductor of the St. Olaf Choir, a position he assumed in 1990. He came to this po-
sition following ten years in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he served on the faculty of Cal-
vin College and conducted the Campus Choir, the Calvin College Alumni Choir and the
Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus.
A graduate of St. Olaf College, Armstrong earned a Master of Music degree at the University
of Illinois and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University. He holds
membership in several professional societies including the American Choral Directors Asso-
ciation, Choristers Guild, Chorus America, and the International Federation for Choral Music.
He serves as editor of a multicultural choral series for Earthsongs Publications and co-editor
of the revised St. Olaf Choral Series for Augsburg Fortress Publishers. Dr. Armstrong is
widely recognized for his work in the area of youth and childrens choral music. He served
for over twenty years on the summer faculty of the American Boychoir School, and held the position of Conductor of the
St. Cecilia Youth Chorale, a 75 voice treble chorus based in Grand Rapids, from 1981-1990. He has conducted the Trou-
badours, 30-voice boys ensemble of the Northfield Youth Choirs since 1991. He currently serves as a member of the
Board of Trustees of the American Boychoir School. In June 1998, he began his tenure as conductor of the Oregon Bach
Festival Youth Choral Academy.
Anton Armstrong has conducted the St. Olaf Choir in critically acclaimed solo concert performances at the 59th National
Conference of the Music Educators National Conference in April 2004, the Sixth World Symposium on Choral Music in
August 2002, and at the 1999 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Chicago, Illinois. In
February 2005, The St. Olaf Choir shared the stage with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in presenting the finale concert
for the national conference of the American Choral Directors Association at the new Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles,
California.
Dr. Armstrong is active as a guest conductor and lecturer throughout North America, Europe, Scandinavia, Korea, Singa-
pore, Australia, New Zealand, Venezuela, and the Caribbean. In June 2003, he was honored to serve as the first Peter
Godfrey Visiting Professor of Choral Music at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In recent years he has guest
conducted such noted ensembles as the Utah Symphony and Symphony Chorus, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the
Westminster Choir, the American Boychoir and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has also collaborated in concert
with Bobby McFerrin and Garrison Keillor.
During 2004-2005, Dr. Armstrong served as conductor of All-State Choirs in New Jersey and Michigan. He also led
choral festivals in Carnegie Hall, New York, Davies Hall, San Francisco, and Orchestra Hall, Chicago. During Spring
2005, he served as the Visiting Housewright Scholar in the School of Music at Florida State University and guest clini-
cian with the Singing City Choir of Philadelphia. Additional conducting and lecturing engagements this season include
appearances in North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Alaska, New York, South Caro-
lina, Illinois, and California.

Downtown on Friday, September 16 from 7:00-9:00 PM. You will have the opportunity to spend time with Anton Arm-
strong, visit with colleagues and friends, and meet choral musicians from across the state. Heavy hors doeuvres will be
served and a cash bar will be available. The cost of this event is included in your registration. The reception will begin

1:00PM ~ Appalachian State University Singers
The University Singers of Appalachian State University is a
sixty-voice ensemble that performs a repertoire of diverse
genres and styles. They have performed at state, regional, and
national conventions, most recently at the 2005 National
ACDA Convention in Los Angeles. Comprised mostly of music
majors, membership in the group is open by audition to all
students, regardless of major.

Dr. Stephen M. Hopkins is Director of Choral Activities in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University,
a position he has held since 1992. He conducts the Chamber Singers and University Singers and teaches choral con-
ducting, choral techniques, and choral literature at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His previous teaching
experience includes two years as Director of Choral Activities at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas and
seven years of public school teaching in Tennessee and Texas.
A native of Paris, Tennessee, Dr. Hopkins holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Choral Con-
ducting from the University of Texas at Austin and received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Murray
State University. He is a member of Music Educators National Conference and the American Cho-
ral Directors Association and has contributed articles to the Choral Journal.
Dr. Hopkins recently conducted the University Singers of Appalachian in performance at the Na-
tional Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. They also performed under his
direction at the ACDA Southern Division Convention in Nashville in 2004. A frequent guest clini-
cian and adjudicator, he is also an active composer and arranger. His compositions "Jonah!" and
"Dear John, Dear John" are published by Hinshaw Music, Inc.
Dr. Hopkins has served as Director of Choral Activities for Cannon Music Camp since 1993 and has
been Camp Director since the 2001 camp session.

Fran McCachern Page is Professor of Music at Meredith College, where she
teaches methods courses for music education majors and K-6 teacher licensure
students. As the Coordinator of Music Education, she advises music education
majors and directs and supervises student teaching. Dr. Page is a Past-President of
the North Carolina Music Educators Association and Past Chair of the Arts Edu-
cation Coalition (AEC). She is President of Southern Division MENC: The Na-
tional Association for Music Education and serves on the National Executive
Board of MENC: the National Association for Music Education. In July of 2004,
Dr. Page was named Tar Heel of the Week by the Raleigh News and Observer.
Dr. Page has the B.A. in music education from Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina and the M.M. and Ed. D. in
music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She holds Orff Levels I, II, and III certification.
Recognized for her expertise as a children's choral specialist, she frequently conducts workshops and festivals. She also has
done considerable work in the area of curriculum integration and arts curriculum planning and assessment and consults
with schools in that capacity.
Christen Reddig is in her fifth year as conductor of Chorale for CCGC. She was previously on the
conducting staff of the Madison Childrens Choir in Madison, WI from 1994-1999. Ms. Reddig was
responsible for the preparation of two training choirs. In 1997, her choirs were selected to be part of
the model choir for MENCs Worlds Largest Concert. She has directed high school choir, middle
school choir and beginning orchestra in the public schools. Ms. Reddig graduated with honors from
The Ohio State University with a degree in Music Education. She performed with the Atlanta Sym-
phony Orchestra & Chorus in 1991 for the performance of Mahlers Eighth Symphony under the
direction of the late Robert Shaw. While at OSU she participated in the Robert Shaw Choral Insti-
tute. Ms. Reddig is also an accomplished vocalist, having placed first in the 1989 Indiana chapter of NATS competi-
tion for collegiate women. When shes not conducting she can be found at Morehead Montessori Elementary School in
Durham as a teachers assistant keeping an eye on her seven-year-old son, Colin.

William P. Carroll is in his twenty-second year on the faculty of the School of Music at the Univer-
sity of North Carolina at Greensboro where he serves as Chair of the Vocal Studies Division, Di-
rector of Choral Activities, and Conductor of the University Chorale. A native Mississippian, Car-
roll holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the College-Conservatory
of Music at the University of Cincinnati, the Master of Music in choral conducting and the Master
of Sacred Music degrees from Southern Methodist University, and the Bachelor of Music in piano
performance from Millsaps College.
A frequent guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician for workshops and festivals throughout the country, Carroll has
guest conducted the North Carolina Senior High Honors Chorus, the North Carolina Senior High All-State Chorus,
the North Carolina Junior High All-State Chorus, the North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus, and more than 200
regional choral events. Additionally, he has appeared at the National Convocation of the Intercollegiate Male Cho-
ruses Association, on three occasions for the Fellowship of United Methodist Musicians at Lake Junaluska Assem-
bly, at Carnegie Hall through both Manhattan Concert Productions and Mid-America Productions, and on Christmas
Eve, 1993 conducting Part I of Handels MESSIAH for CBS Television and the Armed Forces Network. He served a
fifteen year tenure as Conductor and Music Director of the Choral Society of Greensboro during which time the en-
semble made five international tours.
In 1997 Dr. Carroll became Editor and Educational Consultant for Hin-
shaw Music, Inc. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In this capacity he
edits his own choral series and directs the editorial process for the com-
panys annual release of new production for church, school, and com-
munity choirs.
Carroll was the 2001 recipient of the Lara Hoggard Award for distin-
guished service to the choral art presented by the North Carolina-
American Choral Directors Association.
