Discovering Discovered Markets

Flipkart is an E-commerce business set up in India. It started its


operations in 2007 and since then has become one of the leading E-
commerce portals in the country. It offers over thousands of
products diversified under 150+ categories ranging from electronics
to apparel. Over the years, its performance has been consistent and
it has shown a huge growth in the market. In 2017, Flipkart was
valued at $11.6 Billion. Flipkart has gained huge recognition all
over the country not just for its quality of products but because of
its customer sale services.

In May 2017, Flipkart showed an interest in expanding its business


to the FMCG sector. The top management of Flipkart believes that the
FMCG industry can add a considerable amount to their revenue and
also help Flipkart remain the market leader by being a one roof
portal where everything can be available at one place without
hassle.

Additional Information:
v Amazon recently started their FMCG fray and have been
performing very well mainly due to their 1-day delivery
option.
v Flipkart mainly earns its revenue through sale of electronics.
v Many start-ups and businesses have failed in this field.
Example: GrocShop, PepperTap
TASK AT HAND:
1. Distinguish your business from other FMCG portals which are
already well established in the market. Example: Big Basket,
Amazon Now. Do this in the form of setting goals, objectives,
USP and other key factors for the venture.

2. As the marketing team of Flipkart, design a strategy that will


help you get an edge over other shopping portals.

3. Prepare a timeline of and for operations as to how Flipkart


should go about conducting this new market entry.

1) Form teams of 3 (that were present for the previous


round). If you were not present for the first round,
you may form a new team.
2) Mention your name, registration number, class and phone
number in your answer sheet.
3) Solutions are to presented in the form of a report
(word document/PDF) along with a 5 slide PPT.
