Subject: 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World
General Description: This course aims to engage students in appreciation and critical study of 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the
World encompassing their various dimensions, genres, elements, structures, contexts, and traditions.
Course Description: Study and appreciation of the literature of the region where the school is located in relation to the literature of the other regions
of the country.

The learner will be able to understand and appreciate the elements and contexts of 21st century Philippine literature

The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21st Century Philippine literature from the
regions through:
Performance Standards 1. a written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and theme, with a description of
its context derived from research; and
2. an adaptation of a text into other creative forms using multimedia.
The learners identify the geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimensions of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial to

PROCEDURE

1. Discuss the following specific learning objectives using any of the suggested protocols (Verbatim, Own Words, Read Aloud):
a. I can read the Hinilawod of Panay closely using the guide questions:
1) What are the important events that happened in the story?
2) What do these events reflect about the lives of the people during that period?
b. I can write a 250-word interpretation of the literary text which describes the context of heroism during the pre-colonial
period.
Introduction 2. Review on the students knowledge on Historical and Biographical Criticisms emphasizing on generating answers to the
following questions:
a. Which of the authors stated beliefs are reflected in the work?
b. How does the literature reflect the time in which it was written?
c. How does the story reflect the attitudes and beliefs of the time in which it was written or set?
(Consider beliefs and attitudes related to race, religion, politics, gender, society, philosophy, etc.)
1. Present the Video, The Pre-Colonial Philippines for plain viewing activity.
Motivation 2. Ask thought-provoking questions about how the students have understood the message of the video.
3. Ask the differences of Pre-Colonial Philippines as discussed in the video with the Philippines today.
