PART A (5 x 2 = 10 Marks)
1. Write the expressions for input impedance of open and short circuited dissipation less
line.
2. A 50 coaxial cable feeds a 75+j20 dipole antenna. Find reflection coefficient and
standing wave ratio.
3. At a frequency of 80MHz, a loss less transmission line has a characteristic impedance
of 300 and a wavelength of 2.5 m. Find L and C.
4. Give the equation for the characteristic impedance and propagation constant for
dissipation less line.
5. Define SWR.
PART B (4 x 10 = 40 Marks)
Answer the following
6. (a)(i) Explain in detail the waveform distortion and also derive the conditions for
distortionless line.
(ii) Write a brief note on impedance measurement on transmission lines.

b) The characteristic impedance of a uniform transmission line is 2309.6 ohms at a
frequency of 800 MHz. At this frequency, the propagation constant is
0.054(0.0366+i0.99). Determine R and L.

7. (a)A generator of 1 volt, 1000 cycles, supplies power to a 100 mile open wire line
terminated in 200 ohm resistance. The line parameters are: R= 10.4 ohms per mile,
L= 0.00367H/miles, G=0.8X 10-6 mho/mile, and C=0.00835 f/mile. Calculate the
reflection coefficient, Input impedance, the input power, the output power,
transmission efficiency.

(b) (i) Explain the reflection on lines not terminated in characteristic impedance with
phasor diagrams. Define reflection coefficient and reflection loss.(5)
(ii) Derive the input impedance of a eighth wave line.(5)

8. (a) Determine the stub length and the distance of the stub from the load given that a
complex load ZL=200-j300 is to be matched to a 150 transmission line using a short
circuited stub. (10)

complex load ZL=50-j100 is to be matched to a 75 transmission line using a short
circuited stub.(10)
9. (a) Discuss in detail about Inductance loading of Telephone cables and derive the
attenuation constant , phase constant and velocity of signal transmission for the
uniformly loaded cable. (10)

(b) Discuss about the parameters of the open wire and coaxial line at high
