1.PURPOSE

This Specification defines the characteristics required for the rubber pipes ensuring the circulation of the fuels on
the vehicles equipped with gasoline (carburetor or ignition), engines, diesel engines or engines powered by
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
This Specification applies to filling inserts, as well as to pipes conveying fuel fumes (setting to atmosphere of the
tank, vacuum housings...)
The pipes defined in this Specification resist to the external oil, gasoil, water projections, and may be submitted
without damage temperatures from - 20 to + 150 C (according to the temperature class).

3.GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

These specifications are that in the Specifications B20 0110 and B20 1410; the paragraphs B and E complete them
as follows:
B - SUPPLIER'S RESPONSIBILITY
The delivered parts must be free of apparent faults, such as: lack of material, seam, blister, bubble, inclusion,
crack, tear, interruption.
In the case of "watered rag connections", the mat should not appear on the surface.
The parts must be free of:
inside: any deposit (lubricant-blooms, mold-stripping or relieving products).
outside: any fat, self-adhering or staining product.
E - MARKING
Unless specific requirement imposed (discrete marking), the marking must be performed with a yellow ink and must
include:
a band of 2.5 mm minimum width on the entire length of the tube or pipe (admitted: band interrupted by the
marking defined below),
the supplier's name and reference,
the manufacturing week and year,
the type of the pipe (see Terms specific to the pipe type),
the category of the pipe (see Terms specific to the pipes pressure category),
the digit (70, 100, 125) indicating the class of temperature (see Terms referring to the room temperature).
Note 1: In the case of pipes of "watered rag" structure, a second band of 2.5 mm minimum width must be traced on
the generator of the pipe diametrically opposed to the marking previously defined:
- continuous band for the pipes of B category,
- - discontinuous band for the pipes of C category trace: minimum length 10 mm, maximum length 25 mm,
interruption: minimum 10 mm, maximum 25 mm.
Note 2: For the submerged pipes, the marking shall be red.
Note 3: Resistance of marking
- After 5 AF cycles (according to D47 1309) no noticeable alternation of the shade or of the legibility.
- After 22 h at 23 C immersion in the fluid C and 48 h at 70 C drying, no alternation of the shade or legibility.

4.2.TERMS SPECIFIC TO THE PIPE TYPE

The type of the pipe is determined according to the permeability, resistance to peroxide and oxygenated fuels
requirements.
3 types of pipes are projected:
Type 1
- With no specific requirement.
Type 2-3
- Very good resistance to peroxide.
- Poor permeability to fuel.
- Good resistance to oxygenized fuels.
Type 4
- Excellent resistance to peroxide.
- Very poor permeability to fuel.
- Very good resistance to oxygenized fuels.
Moreover, these 3 types have different affectations depending on the nature of the engine feeding.

4.3.TERMS SPECIFIC TO THE PIPES PRESSURE CATEGORY

Depending on the use of pipe, the pressure it may be submitted to varies from 0 tp 0.45 MPa. The fuel pipes are
classified in 3 pressure categories:
Category A:
max. operating pressure 0.1 Mpa
Category B:
max. operating pressure 0.15 Mpa
Category C:
max. operating pressure 0.45 Mpa
4.4.TERMS REFERRING TO THE ROOM TEMPERATURE

To conduct the ageing to temperature tests, a representative value of the environment in which the pipe is
operating must be specified in the plan.
3 classes of temperature are proposed:
Class 70:
70 C continued, 100 C in peak
Class 100:
100 C continued, 125 C in peak
Class 125:
125 C continued, 150 C in peak.
Note: Beyond 125 C continued, an external protection of the pipe will be necessary (insulator foam, sheath...).

5.3.OTHER TESTS ON PARTS

5.3.1.SEALING OF PIPES

The pipe is fit on the polished tip (manufactured at H14 tolerance in standard SO/R 286) of a metallic tube of
diameter equal to the nominal diameter of the tip projected in the functional plan.
The length of fittings is equal to the three times the nominal diameter.
The other extremity of the pipe is connected to an air bleeding valve.
No leak may be observed when the pipe is submitted to an internal pressure of the C fluid of 0.05 MPa for 2
minutes.
5.3.2.RESISTANCE TO UNFITTING OF THE PIPES OF INTERNAL DIAMETER LOWER
THAN ...MM

The pipes fitted as shown in paragraph Sealing of pipes and placed vertically, supports at its other cap extremity a
weight of 1 kg.
Under these conditions, it is submitted for 2 minutes to an internal air pressure of 0.025 MPa, applied progressively
by a pressure-reducing gauge.
The test is conducted on new pipes and on pipes containing fluid C for 48 h to 23 C (*).
The pipe may not be tip countersinked, or present breaking trace.
(*) : The pipe is filled with fluid C, then blocked at extremities. The test id conduted after 1 h at 23 C drying.
5.3.3.NON BURSTING PRESSURE (PIPES OF WATERED RAG OR EMBEDDED RAG
STRUCTURE)

The pipe is submitted to a progressive assembly in air pressure.

The non bursting minimum pressure is set at:
Category B pipe: 1.2 MPa
Category C pipe: 3.0 MPa
The test is conducted on new pipes and on pipes containing fluid C for 48 h at 23 C (see Resistance to unfitting
of the pipes of internal diameter lower than ...mm).
5.3.4.RESISTANCE OF THE EXTERNAL COATING TO FUEL CONTACT (WATERED RAG
PIPE)

The pipe is submerged in a beaker of 500 ml containing a Fluid C/Methanol mixture (85/15).
After 48 h at 23 C, no peeling of the coating may be observed.
After 24 h at 23 C, no peeling may be observed.

TENDANCY TO GIVE DEPOSITS ON THE COPPER PLATE IN THE PRESENCE OF FUEL

1 - EQUIPMENT AND REACTANTS

Flask of 250 ml with screwed cap.
Copper plate of about 120 mm x 12 mm cropped in a hoop iron of 0.03 mm thickness. Before usage, pickle
the plate by immersing for 1 minute in a aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid at 80 % in volume. Rinse in
distilled water, then in alcohol and dry it.
Samples of 80 mm x 15 mm, thickness 2.0 mm 0.2 mm taken of a plate, or samples of 50 mm length taken
of an "all gum" pipe of 5 mm x 13 mm realized in the mixture to be examined.
Note: In the case of a "multi-material" pipe, the test is conducted on the tube in contact with the fuel.
Test fluid:
Mixture made of Fluid C (50% in volume of toluene and 50% in volume of isoctane) containing 50 milli-
equivalents/liter of tertiobutyle hydroperoxide (or 3 ml of a solutions at 80% of TBHP par liter of Fluid C).
2 - PROCEDURE
Insert in a 250 ml flask two test tubes and 2 samples, according to the report:
surface de caoutchouc (en cm 2 ) 1
de
3 3
volume de fluide d' essai (en cm )
Pour 170 ml of test fluid in the flask.
Insert the copper plate in the flask.
Crown the flask.
Live it for 168 h 24 h at 23 C 2 C away from light.
Afert the indicated time, note if a deposit was formed on the copper plate.
