Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This weekend we celebrate the Fourth of July weekend. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the Shrine schedule
will be as usual. On Tuesday, July 4th, we have a different schedule. We are open from 7:30am to 11am. Masses
are at 8:30am and 10am. Confessions are from 8:30 to 10am. The offices will be closed all day.

Late this summer we will have a number of friar transitions here at the Shrine, as follows.

Fr. John Hogan, OFM, is leaving his position as Guardian of the Franciscan Community at the Shrine. The
Guardian is the leader of the Franciscan Friar community. Fr. John will be living in St. Petersburg, Florida, where
he will be in charge of spiritual direction and adult faith formation, as well as hold retreats.

Fr. Barry Langley, OFM, is departing his position as Associate Executive Director here at the Shrine. His new
assignment is to be Guardian of the Franciscan Community at the Franciscan Parish of St. Marys in Pompton
Lakes, NJ.

We also will have three friars joining us.

Fr. Frank Sevola, OFM, will be joining the Franciscan Community and will work as the Guardian for the
Franciscan Community. Fr. Frank previously worked as Guardian and Pastor at St. Marys in Pompton Lakes,
NJ.

Fr. Michael Johnson, OFM, will be joining us. Fr. Michael worked for a long time as Pastor of the friars large
multicultural parish, St. Camillus, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Fr. Mike is fluent in English and Spanish.

Br. Paul Bourque, OFM, will also be joining us. Br. Paul has been working in New Bedford, MA for many years.

For some who dont know the Franciscans, all of these changes may seem rather dramatic. As friars, though, we
generally see ourselves as being itinerant. We go where were needed and have some expectation that our lives
will be one of itinerancy.

It will be appropriate that we have some kind of warm send-off for both Fr. John and Fr. Barry. Both have lived
and worked at the Shrine for some time and have held key roles during their time here. We are most grateful to
them. Also, we will plan some other kind of ceremony welcoming our new friars: Fr. Frank, Fr. Mike, and Br.
Paul. Details about all of that will be announced at a later time.

Fr. Thomas Conway, OFM
