TheShoreTelDirectoroperatesusingShoreTelvoiceswitchestocontrolIPphones.ShoreTelisamodularexpansion
systemuserscanaddadditionalphonesbyincreasingthequantityorsizeoftheirShoreGearswitches.

Specialnoteaboutlicensing:ShoreTellicensingisdonebyuserlicensing,notvoiceswitchlicensing.Sowhileyou
may be able to add a second or third voice switch to your system, your system may not have enough licensing to
supportadditionalusers.Foradditionaluserlicensing,youwillhavetocontactyourShoreTeldealer.

So you have a ShoreGear switch [http://dcomcomputers.com/c-259220-shoretel-shoregear-voice-switches.html] you want to add to

yoursystem,youllneedtofirstgettheswitchhookeduptoyournetwork.YoullneedtorunanEthernetCat5eor6
cablefromtheswitchtoyourlocalareanetwork(LAN).FromhereyoullneedtoconnectyourswitchthroughtheRS
232consoleporttoacomputer.LogintotheswitchviaPuTTYtogainaccesstotheconsoleoutput.Oncethevoice
switch has fully booted up, youll need to provide the username and password to login. By default, the ShoreGear
usernameandpasswordisAnonymousandShoreTel.Thisiscasesensitive.

Note:Ifyoucannotloginwiththedefaultloginanddonotknowtheusername/password,youllneedtoresetthe
switch.Iftheswitchisprogrammedonyoursystem,thiswilleraseyoursettings!Takeapaperclipandpushinthe
resetbuttontotheleftofthepowerLEDindicator.Holdthatbuttoninuntilyoubegintoseetheswitchresetinthe
commandlineinterface(CLI).
Onceloggedin,youllneedtoedittheShoreGearVoiceSwitchssettingstomakeitcompatiblewithyourShoreWare
Director.Tochangethesystemconfiguration,type3toentiresystemconfiguration.

Method, and DHCP/BOOTP modes. These settings are required to get the voice switch to communicate with your
ShoreWaredirector.Youllneedtoentertheappropriatechoiceforyourownsystem.

IP Address: IP Address of the ShoreGear Voice Switch. Make sure it is on the same subnet as the ShoreWare
Director

SubnetMask:Mostlikely255.255.255.0.Youwouldknowifitwasnot.

GatewayIPaddress:ThisisfrequentlytheIPaddressofyourrouter,mostlikelyxxx.xxx.xxx.1wherethexscorrespond
toyourserversIPaddress.

ServerIPAddress:ThisistheIPaddressofyourShoreWareDirector

BootMethod:YoucanchoosetobootthephonesineitherFTPorFlashmode.WeuseFTPhere.

Enable/DisableDHCP/BOOTP:IfusingDHCP,leavethissettingon.IfyouareusingStaticIPaddressing,youllneed
todisablethissetting.
