PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide leadership and guidance in Pakistan on the implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of the British Council Child Safe Programme according to the British Council
Child Protection policy and in line with Pakistan legislation. We recognise that the care
and welfare of children is paramount and that all children have the right to protection
from all types of harm therefore the role is extremely important to be operated in
Pakistan.
Country Operation
We have been in Pakistan for over sixty years, and during that time we have developed deep
and lasting relationships with individuals and organisations. We are re-opening Libraries as
convening spaces, content hubs and information services that support our wider strategy in
Pakistan.
In Pakistan we operate at scale supporting 500,000 exams a year, working with over 150,000
teachers and all Higher Education Institutions. We have ambitious plans for Arts, further work in
English especially in Sindh and KPK building on our success in the Punjab. We aim to do this
through delivery of services using a range of channels including more digital avenues.
1. To lead and ensure the effective network coordination in Pakistan to aid a consistent

organisational approach to child protection: Working and leading the with Child protection
Working Group.
2. To design (if required) and deliver child protection training and knowledge to the British
Council staff members, partners, invigilators, consultants, temporary staffs, security
guards and etc. to improve knowledge.
3. To gather information and communicate key messages on child protection to raise staff
and customer awareness and promote our organisational commitment to keeping children
safe
4. To contribute to the increasing involvement of senior management levels on child
protection.
5. To lead on the implementation and monitoring of the Pakistans Child Protection Action
Plan and the corporate Child Protection standards.
6. To provide advice and support when required keeping the confidentiality high.
7. The role will be responsible for ensuring a culture of proactive child protection systems
and safe practice: Completion of Pakistans Action Plan and Self-audit tool upon Corporate
Child Protection Team request.
8. To promote and adapt organisational systems and procedures to the Pakistani context to
help prevent and respond to child protection incidents.
9. To design and deliver child protection training to improve staff knowledge and skills and
ensure mandatory training is completed by all staff.
10.To conduct visits to the offices across the country to provide specialist advice and support
to management and on Child Protection issues
11.To support and advice senior managers on Child Protection when an incident occurs and
liaise with the Corporate Child Protection team and Official Lawyer according to the
Corporate Response Plan
12.To gather information and communicate key messages on child protection to raise staff
awareness.
13.To raise awareness on child protection with third parties (customers, partners and
suppliers) and promote our organisational commitment to keeping children safe
(working together with the Child Protection Working Group, Management in Pakistan and
other team).
14.To work closely with the Pakistan Human Resources team to improve and prioritise safer
recruitment and employment practices in all recruitments of British Council.
15.Lead and support the Pakistan operation to get ready for both internal and external Child
Protection audits
16.To coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child protection work in
Pakistan.
