Secours Islamique France: Program Coordinator, Greece
To Whom It May Concern:
I recently graduated with my MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution with a focus in Emergency
Response and Security Management. I have worked in the humanitarian field for 3 years. I previously
worked in Chalkida Greece as a Field Coordinator and would enjoy working in Greece again. I am familiar
with the Greek system and culture, and the function of the refugee camps in Greece. I have been taking
Arabic lessons and would consider myself to be an advanced beginner. As the Program Coordinator I bring
with me this knowledge and I would provide a high level of critical thinking, diverse project management
abilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
I have worked with the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) for 1.5 years in the Security
Management Unit. During my time with the AFSC I was an integral part of numerous projects including; the
development and implementation of a system for facilitating semi-structured qualitative interviews with staff
members around the globe to gain their perceptions on safety and security at the AFSC, assisted in the
drafting of the 3-year Security Strategic Plan, and the development and implementation of a customized local
security plan template for the AFSC to be dispersed a crossed 8 regions.
I worked with Lighthouse Relief as their Field Coordinator in the Ritsona Refugee camp. As the Field
Coordinator I managed program officers and oversaw location operations. In this time I developed and
implemented incident reporting systems, security plans, and fleet management protocol. I took the initiative
to revamp our volunteer process and created a new volunteer recruitment and coordination system. I was
responsible for all administration duties including management and monitoring expenditures according to the
location budget. I conducted reports for Head Office and donors for finances and project activities. I pride
myself in being an active member of a team and demonstrate leadership. I was able to step into this situation
and demonstrate leadership by building a strong team to focus efforts towards project completion. My peers
seem me as a leader regardless of title, leading by example and do not ask others to do things that I would not
My security and project management backgrounds are matched with my strong interpersonal skills. My
interpersonal skills developed during my fifteen years of competitive karate. Starting in 2009, each year I
competed for a position on the USA Karate Olympic Team. I didn’t make the USA Team until 2013 and
where I competed in the Pan American Games in Colombia. During the years of defeat I learned to reflect on
my shortcomings and to motivate myself to go the extra mile. My karate experiences paired with my years as
a security supervisor enhanced my ability to be aware of my surroundings and work under pressure. I was the
security focal point for my area where I managed employees, quickly prioritize issues that were brought to
my attention, and ensured that tasks were completed.
I am a likeable and easy to talk to person who is able to laugh at myself, which I believe contributes to my
resiliency. The skills and experiences listed above all shape me to be an authentic person and the ideal
candidate for this position. I look forward to speaking with you about how I can contribute to the work of
Secours Islamique France. I am available for a follow up interview at your convenience.

All my best,

Sloan Galbraith
