Venezuela: Helicopter
strafes court in terrorist attack
CARACAS, Venezuela Oscar Perez is a cop, pilot,
action movie star and dog trainer. Hes now also a fugitive,
accused of strafing two key Venezuelan government build-
ings from a helicopter in a quixotic attempt to set off a
revolt against President Nicolas Maduro.
Authorities on Wednesday conducted a nationwide man-
hunt for Perez a day after the government charged that he
stole the police chopper and directed grenades and gunfire
against the Supreme Court and Interior Ministry in what
Maduro called a terrorist attack.
No one was injured, and there was no sign of damage at the
buildings. But the episode added another layer of intrigue to
a 3-month-old political crisis that has left at least 75 people
dead and hundreds more jailed or injured in clashes between
security forces and protesters seeking Maduros removal.
Did Perez act alone? Are other military uprisings in the
works? Or was it an elaborate ruse clumsily orchestrated by
the government to distract public attention or justify a
tougher crackdown on the opposition?

Alex Laubscher is a throwback. He was one
of those athletes who played the sport that
was in season.
And he did it all for a very altruistic rea-
son: he wanted to play with his friends and
he wanted to help out his school. With a stu-
dent population of less than 300, if a
Crystal Springs athlete can play one sport,
he is encouraged to play another.
During this past season, his senior year,
Laubscher did even more. He was not a two-
sport star or three-sport star. No, Laubscher
was that rare four-sport standout.
And he wasnt just some scrub on the
bench. Laubscher played a key role on every
team for which he played, earning him the
honor of being named the Daily Journals
Boys Athlete of the Year.
He was tenacious, said Rob Cannone,
CSUS athletic director and Laubschers
baseball coach. He was pretty hard on him-
self, but that just showed his competitive-
ness.
That wasnt a typo before. Laubscher
played four sports this past school year:
football in the fall, soccer in the winter, and
baseball and golf in the spring.

C&L Mudcats repeat as Colt League champs

By Terry Bernal
DAILY JOURNAL STAFF

Last season, when the C&L Mudcats were

winning the Peninsula Colt League title, Levi
Stubbles was pitching at a lower level in a
neighboring city. This year, his complete-
game effort led the Mudcats of South San
Francisco to a Colt League championship
repeat.
Stubbles overcame some first-inning jitters
to lead C&L to a fairly dominant champi-
onship game victory, as the Mudcats rolled to
an 8-1 win over the Menlo Park Legends
Wednesday night at Lara Field.
After a pair of first-inning walks, it looked
as though Stubbles might be in for another
rough outing against the Legends. In his lone
regular-season start against Menlo, C&Ls ace
endured his shortest outing of the season when
he walked seven before departing after just 1
2/3 innings.
Intending not to let history repeat itself,
Mudcats manager Vince Lopiccolo took a jog
to the mound after Stubbles issued back-to-

food, Nolan says.

DEAR DOROTHY,
After all these years, its still absolutely
true . . .
Theres no place like home. Since Im
very senior myself, Ive invested a lot of
energy collecting and testing walk-in
tubs. Now Im trying, with little success, to get rid of most of them.
WHY? Having designed some with so many improvements nobody
wants anything else in spite of their clearance prices, and I understand
perfectly why thats the case. After all, Its the last tub theyre ever
going to buy. What with 400 tubs, including 25 walk-in tubs on display,
its absolutely true Theres no place, no bathroom showroom, quite
like TUBZ in the world! Besides bathtubs, faucets and such, youd be
happy to know we also display the best
performing toilets in the world and they are
named after your dear little dog, Toto!
