The constant feedback from our students is of
When the University of Luxembourg was established in 2003, several existing higher education
institutions were integrated into the Universitys three faculties. The Faculty of Science, Tech-
nology, and Communication arises from a merger of: 1. the Institut Suprieur de Technologie,
founded in 1916, which offered, since 1997, a four-year degree in applied engineering sciences
and computer sciences; and 2. the Dpartement des Sciences of the Centre Universitaire du
Luxembourg (biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics), which offered first-year (and in some
cases, second-year) courses in medicine, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
Today, the FSTC is split over two of the campuses: Kirchberg: Engineering, Computer Science,
Geophysics, Mathematics; and Limpertsberg: Life Sciences, Physics and Materials Science).
Some colleagues are already based in Belval (Laboratory for Photovoltaics; and the House
of Biomedicine). A new Campus is being built at the moment in Esch-Belval and already has
become the new home for parts of the University.
Studies are organised in Bachelor and Master courses. The FSTC offers two professional
Bachelor programmes (Bachelor in Engineering; Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Sciences/
Bachelor en Informatique) and two academic Bachelor programmes (Bachelor in Sciences and
Engineering; Bachelor in Life Sciences), as well as ten Masters: Mathematics (academic);
Information and Computer Sciences (academic); Integrated Systems Biology (academic);
Sustainable Development: Energy and Environment (professional); Master in Condensed Matter
Physics (academic); Master in Information Systems Security Management (professional);
European Master of Small Animal Veterinary Medicine (professional); Master of Science in Civil
Engineering - Megastructure Engineering with Sustainable Resources (academic); Master of
Science in Engineering - Sustainable Product Creation (academic); Master Professionnel en
Sciences de lIngnieur - Efficacit nergtique et conomique (professional).
The Faculty also offers continuing education programmes in general medicine for general
practitioners (formation spcifique en mdecine gnrale), as well as a Certificate of Small
Animal Veterinary Practice (CSAVP) a Certificate on the Principles of Biobanking and a
Certificate "Smart ICT for business innovation". Furthermore, the Faculty hosts a comparatively
high number of doctoral students.
Research at the FSTC is structured into five research units: Computer Science and Com-
munication; Engineering Science; Mathematics; Physics & Materials Science; Life Sciences.
Researchers engage in national and international collaborations, and the Faculty attracts EU as
well as corporate research funding (e.g. the ArcelorMittal Chair in Facade Engineering).
Two Interdisciplinary Centres (ICs) underpin some of the FSTCs research areas: the IC for
Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), and the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine
(LCSB). These ICs are independent from an administrative perspective, but are closely linked
thematically to the Faculty, and interaction with the Facultys research units and staff is
mutually beneficial.
The Facultys staff and students benefit from international collaborations on the European
as well as on the global level. Professors and researchers are from more than 20 different
countries, and teaching is offered in English, French and German.
Dissemination and outreach activities include public lecture series, expert seminars and
conferences (also in cooperation with NGOs and other stakeholders), as well as workshops for
students and children, school visits and participation at information days, fairs and exhibitions.

Moodle to all students of the Faculty. You can connect to this platform from any computer in
the world via Internet and your personal login details.
FSTC Moodle is a collaborative platform that enables exchange and interaction from a distance
between teachers and students as well as the distribution of all course-supporting materials.
It is used by the Faculty staff to communicate all relevant information concerning the courses
you are following including reading lists, cancellation of courses, exam dates, exam registration,
evaluation of your courses, etc.
You should register to Moodle immediately upon arrival, to make sure you never miss updates
and news, manage your studies efficiently, and to participate in news forums with other
students and teachers.
To access fstc moodle, please type this address into your web browser:

6. Your opinion counts! Evaluate your courses and contribute to our quality initiative!
After each semester, we will ask you to evaluate the courses you have taken, by completing a
questionnaire. We encourage you to participate in these evaluations, as it will help us to learn
which things work well, and what needs to be improved. Evaluations will be announced by the
Dean and the Course directors. These surveys are of course anonymous.
Furthermore, the Dean's office will continue to invite interested students to provide general
input and feedback to our quality enhancement initiative for teaching and learning. This will
include focus group discussions and other feedback channels.
7. Your opinion counts - contd.: The Student Feedback and Discussion Forum on Moodle
Every student can actively engage in feedback and discussion at our Faculty. The Feedback
Forum on Moodle is a joint initiative by the FSTC Dean's office and the Students' Committee
(CEST). You just need to logon to Moodle and participate at an existing discussion topic or open
up a new one. You will receive feedback via the CEST, who will also discuss possible solutions to
any problem mentioned with representatives from the Dean's office.

Belval The move of the University of Luxembourg started in early 2015: parts of the administration
moved to the City of Sciences in Belval, situated between Esch-sur-Alzette and Sanem. The
Faculty of Humanities (FLSHASE) moved in summer 2015, and FLSHASE students will start their
classes on the new Campus this September.
FSTC students might also be invited to join events or activities on Campus Belval, but courses will
take place on Campus Kirchberg and Limpertsberg for the time being.
Belval is easily accessible via public transport from Luxembourg City (29 minutes by train, one
train every 15 minutes, train station "Belval-Universit") as well as from the surroundings thanks
to many bus connections. A new leaflet for public transport has been designed by the Ministry,
and is accessible for download on Moodle.
The University will be just some steps away from student housing, shopping and cultural facilities
(Rockhal, cinema, etc.) and also close to impressing industrial heritage.
You can already experience the site by visiting the public exhibition in the "Massenoire" building
and taking part of guided tours organised by the Fonds Belval. You can also climb one of the
refurbished blast furnaces now! For opening hours and dates of guided tours, please consult
