Details for Communicating Council Vacancy District 3

Charter for reference:

12.3.4. If there is a vacancy on the County Council, the County Council, by a majority vote of the
remaining serving Council Members, must appoint a Person to hold that office until the end of the term
of the vacant Council Member.

12.3.5. In every case where a Person is as appointed as provided in this Charter to fill a vacancy in an
elected County Office, the Person appointed must have an affiliation with the same registered political
party as the Person replaced, if the Person replaced was affiliated with a registered political party.

In November 2016, County Council Member for District 3 Bob Boyer won the election for the Jefferson County
Assessor Office for a term to begin on September 1, 2017, which has created a vacancy for the remainder of his
Council term ending December 31, 2018. The Jefferson County Council has established the following timeline to
replace the upcoming vacancy in District 3:
6/26/17 Council reviews process of appointing a replacement.
6/26/17 Draft of application form/questions Application for Vacated Council Position are distributed to
the Council for review and feedback.
6/27/17 Publish notice to paper, Administration Center, Justice Center, District 3 posting place, to
inform the public of the 30 day period when applications are available to apply.
7/5/17 7/31/17 Applications for candidates interested in being appointed to fill the vacancy for the
remainder of the term for the Council District 3 are available from the Administrative Assistant to the
County Council, 400 First Street, Hillsboro, MO 63050 starting at 8:00 a.m. on July 5, 2017 to 4:30 p.m.
on July 31, 2017.
8/1/17 Applications received from interested candidates are distributed to the Council for their review.
8/7/17 Special Closed Session Meeting will be held by the Jefferson County Council to interview council
member candidates starting at 7:00 p.m. Interview order will be determined that night by lottery
selection.
August 28, 2017 - Appointment of new Council Member by Council motion and vote. Oath of Office
administered to Board member appointee for the remainder of the term of the vacancy.
The Council has made available the following packet for resident taxpaying citizens of District 3 who wish to
apply for the vacancy on the County Council. If you are interested in joining the Jefferson County Council, please
carefully read the following packet.

Please note that completed packets will be accepted beginning no sooner than 8:00 AM on July 5, 2017. Filing
will close at 4:30 PM on July 31, 2017.
