Introduction
For your information, there are 8 parts of
speech in the English Language. We use
all of them every day in our
conversations. It was:

I will describe each of them in this
assignment. I will make 5 example
sentences for each of them.

1) Noun
A part of speech inflected for case, signifying a
concrete or abstract entity.
A word that functions as the name of some specific
thing or set of things, such as living creatures,
objects, places, actions, qualities, states of existence
or ideas.

Proper Nouns : representing unique entities


Common Nouns : representing a class of entities
Countable Nouns : can combine with numerals
Uncountable : can combine with number
Nouns words
Collective Nouns : a group consisting of more
than one individual

Concrete Nouns : a physical entities that can be
observed by at least one of
the senses
Abstract Nouns : refer to abstract object

2) Verb
A part of speech without case inflection but inflected
for tense, person and number
A word denoting an action, occurrence or state of being

Intransitive Verb : does not have a direct object and


may be followed by an adverb
Linking Verb : cannot be followed by an adverb
and must be followed by a noun
or adjective
Transitive Verb : followed by a noun or noun phrase
Two-Place : named after the verb give and
Transitive precede either two noun phrases
or a noun phrase and then a
prepositional phrase often led by

of the emotion they are expressing

A part of speech placed before other words in
composition and in syntax
An establisher of relation and syntactic

7) Conjunction
A part of speech binding together the discourse and
filling gaps in its interpretation
Connect words, sentences, phrases and clauses

Coordinating Conjunctions: coordinate two or more


items and also called coordinators;
a) For- presents rationale
b) And- presents non-contrasting item or idea
c) Nor- presents a non-contrasting negative idea
d) But- presents a contrast or exception
e) Or- presents an alternative item or idea
f) Yet- presents a contrast or exception
g) So- presents a consequence

Correlative Conjunctions: work in pairs to join words


and groups of words of equal weight in a sentence.
There are six different pairs;
a) Either....or d) Both....and
b) Not only....but e) Whether....or
c) Neither....nor f) Just as....so

Subordinating Conjunctions: join an independent
clause and a dependent clause and also called
subordinators. The most common subordinating
conjunctions in the English language include:

8) Adverb
A part of speech without inflection, in modification of
or in addition to a verb, adjective, clause, sentence or
other adverb
Provides information about the manner, place, time,
frequency, certainty or other circumstances of the
activity denoted by the verb or verb phrase.

II. Kampung Krian was hit by a flash-flood this

III. Puan Aida is a doctor in a government hospital.
IV. A crowd of spectators is watching a football game
between Malaysia and Thailand.
V. P. Ramlee, Malaysias Golden Son, has become a
