WIKI Lesson Plan


LITR 630

1. Aligned Standards ILA:

1.2 Candidates understand the historically shared knowledge of the


profession and changes over time in the perceptions of reading and
writing development, processes, and components.

2.2: Candidates use appropriate and varied instructional approaches,


including those that develop word recognition, language comprehension,
strategic knowledge, and reading-writing connections

2.3 Candidates use a wide range of texts (e.g., narrative, expository, and

2. Grade Level:

3. Time Needed:

35 minutes

4. Materials:

Chromebooks, computers, Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel

5. Learning Targets:

Students will be able to...


* compare and contrast two characters within a story

6. Procedures: Step One (10 minutes)

*Teacher begins lesson with a model on the smartboard.


-Demonstrating how to locate the website
-While moving through the wiki, teacher is clearly stating
expectations of behavior & Popplet responses.
-Teacher reminds students of how to use read& write for the
websites to be read to them.

Step Two (20 minutes)

*Responsibly is released to the students and they are invited to log into their
device.

*Once all students have pulled up google chrome, teacher will lead the
students through the process of gaining access to the wiki.
*After gaining access to the wiki site, students will follow the directions on the
Lesson Introduction page. The wiki has been set up to lead students through
the lesson independently.

Step Three (5 minutes)

*As student begin to finish the assignment, teacher will pair students to discuss
how they compared and contrasted Frog and Toad.
*Lesson will conclude with class discussion of Frog and Toad. Teacher will also
invite students to share how they felt about the device led lesson.

7. Assessment:

Students will be assessed in the beginning of the lesson on their

comprehension of the story and on their Popplet responses. Other ways of

assessment will be anecdotal notes and group handout.

8. Accommodations & Modifications:

My classroom is a special education resource room, I typically create my

groups based on grade level and IEP goals. Inside each group I create

sub groups for even more individualized attention. For this particular

lesson, I will provide accommodations frequently. Modeling is an essential

component of my daily instruction, modeling through this lesson will be

explicit. Many students will require positive reinforcements and/or an

immediate different approach. The way my classroom is set up I can pull


an individual to my table and work with them in an area of the

assignment they are needing more help in. We will be using technology as

a tool for assistance, as well as, our major device to move throughout the

lesson. The other type of modification is the use of an option for one of

the assessments for the comprehension check.
