Goerdt shares triumph, struggles with cancer

No one wants to hear the
words you have cancer,
but for Mary Goerdt, the
phrase only confirmed
what she had already
known for two months.
My right breast was
changing and I knew it
could only be cancer, but
I made excuses and wait-
ed two months before go-
ing in, Goerdt said. I
was in a state of denial
and didnt want to admit
something was wrong.
On June 30 of last
year, Goerdt was diag-
nosed with Stage 3A
Invasive Lobular Carci-
lnoma; a 4-centimeter tu-
,mor had invaded a milk
,duct in her right breast.
sWith additional testing,
rGoerdts oncologist, Dr.

rthat her cancer had spread

her right armpit.
