Introduction

This assignment requires you to choose a real organisation which matches the categories
and requirements listed, and then imagine or discover, and document, the Vision
Statement for your target organisation. From this Vision Statement you will need to
derive an IT Vision and the strategies required to realise that vision. You need to
document the existing state of IT/IS in that organisation (you can imagine or assume, but
if so, you must make your assumptions explicit), undertake a gap analysis to derive the
necessary projects, and then prioritise the projects to fit available resources in order to
derive operational plans and budgets.

You will need to research relevant industry and legislative norms and requirements in
order to ensure that your proposals are consistent with industry best-practice ie for
schools, you will need to ensure consistency with Ministry of Education guidelines for IT,
and with the systems used by other equivalent schools.

Your report should make recommendations to senior management for IT improvements,

You must justify your recommendations by linking projects to strategy and vision
statements, and by discussing alternatives, risk, scheduling, and resourcing. You should
also consider and recommend methods to measure and review the performance of the IT
function in meeting both operational and strategic objectives.

You should use published interviews, magazine articles (cio.co.nz), and websites, in order
to derive information about the organisations Vision, management, and IT infrastructure,
and list these sources, and any assumptions that you make about the organisation, at the
beginning of your report.

Structure your report according to the marking schedule outlined on page 4.

When writing your report you should ensure that it is professionally produced, and
would be suitable to be included within your CV, as an example of your best work.

Start each new section on a new page. Check your grammar and spelling. Use a writing
style that is pitched at senior management. Your report should be professional - consider
yourself as having been hired as a consultant to produce this report!

You must choose a local Auckland organisation, from the following categories, which also
has at least 20 workstations, and has an annual gross turnover of between NZD5-50
million - you must confirm that your choice is acceptible to the course coordinator!

[Each student must target a different organisation Choose and then lock your selection
into EITONLINE, and obtain confirmation from the Course Lecturer before proceeding]
