The Job
ASQA is looking for people who have initiative, a commitment to excellence, strong analytical
and problem solving capabilities, an ability to think conceptually as well as creatively, the
capacity to communicate effectively with stakeholders, and to work within a team environment.

The Business Intelligence Coordinator will deliver both ad hoc and structured business
intelligence services to ASQAs business users.
The position is located in Melbourne There may be a requirement to undertake interstate travel.
The position is an Executive Level 1 and there are a range of tasks and duties for the position
including, but not exclusive to, the following:
Develop SQL queries to extract data from ASQAs business systems in response to ad hoc
service requests
Develop information and data presentation facilities for controlled publication of regular
statistical and high value reports for self-service delivery to a range of internal and external
users
Plan for, establish and manage ASQAs business intelligence delivery model so that it is
engineered to meet ASQAs evolving organisational maturity
Derive and maintain documentation covering ASQAs Information Architecture associated
with the business systems as data sources including ASQAs Regulatory Management
System, the National Training Information Service (NTIS) and its replacement system,
training.gov.au (TGA)
Develop relationships with source system owners and facilities managers as resources to
inform an understanding of ASQAs Information Architecture and to ensure the continued
smooth operation of ASQAs business intelligence architecture
Take initiatives to provide accurate reporting through identifying and controlling data quality
pertaining to the source systems, and to deliver quality control of ASQAs business
intelligence architecture.

Selection Criteria
1. Ability to understand large and complex data sets and database schema

2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of systems and tools for data
extraction, storage and presentation, in particular Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and
SQL

3. Experience gathering relevant information systematically, analysing statistical data and


identifying key issues patterns and trends

4. Knowledge of statistical information presentation techniques and the ability to use these to
communicate and present statistical data to a variety of target audiences

5. An understanding of alternative business intelligence technologies and their relevance to a


comparable-sized organisation

6. Highly developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by


experience in communicating with and presenting to both business and information
technology stakeholders

7. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with limited direction to manage multiple
conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, exercise professional judgement in a constructive
manner and deliver high quality results within required timeframes in a complex, sometimes
ambiguous and dynamic environment.
