The Best School in the Universe! April 24th

Learning this week

Word Families and Digraphs: SIGHT WORDS OF THE WEEK:
-ent they, who

Plan, write, revise and edit!! We are almost to first grade!! After your child
plans and writes his/her homework, have your child reread, check for sight
WRITING words, finger spaces, capitals, punctuation marks, and make sure it makes
sense! All children should be able to write an opening sentence, 2-5
descriptive sentences, and a closing sentence by now.

Addition:
Has your child been practicing the addition flash cards we sent home? Our
MATH goal is to have addition problems equaling up to 12 mastered before the year
is over! He/she should be able to use manipulatives, pictures, count on, and
even begin to memorize addition problems by now.

Water:
SCIENCE Science and Social Studies will go hand in hand for a few weeks. This week
we will learn about how to conserve water and why this is important.

Texas Bodies of Water:

For the next few weeks we will discuss different bodies of water. Has your
SOCIAL
child ever been to the ocean, river, or lake? Do you have a pond on your
STUDIES
property? We would love to have some pictures emailed to us so we can
show the kids real life pictures.

Reading Help
When your child gets to a word he/she doesnt know, have your child sound out the
word. Ask Do you see a rule? (explanation above) and have your child use the
picture to help.
Fluency- the more your child practices a book, the faster they read. We are
working on reading the sentences in phrases, not word for word. (No robot voices)
Retell the story- what happened first, next, last?
If applicable, what was the problem? How did the problem get solved?
