Legal and Ethical

What Legal and Ethical issues could exist in your work?

There could be an issue with filming and there being the general public within the music video,
this would create an issue if they had objections to being filmed. They may object on the
grounds that it invades their privacy or on the grounds of personal safety or other issues.

Another issue could be that the scene where it is filmed in an arcade could be viewed as
encouraging, normalising and promoting gambling with young people.

What legal issues could exist in your work (copyright, images and content)

The most obvious copyright issue in the music video are the restrictions of using a song by Ed
Sheeran. This could prevent us from using our initial song choice and mean that we would have
to change our song choice to one without restrictions and then adapt or completely change our
idea for the video.
Another potential problem area would be having children in the video as they cannot be used
without consent of their parents or guardian. This should not be a problem however as we arent
intending to use children within the music video.

Who is responsible for regulating your video work?

The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) is responsible for regulating our video. The
BBFC are responsible for regulating all music videos and films and they decide on whether or
not a video or film is suitable for a particular age range and they will then give out a
classification based on the content. A classification is affected if it contains foul language,
gratuitous violence, nudity, sex or discrimination to name a few.

The BBFC would be responsible for viewing our video and to rate it on the factors above, so
giving it a classification. Our video should be classified as suitable for all as it doesnt contain
any of the issues that the BBFC use to assess a video. Should they not find it suitable then they
would advise us to change it or remove certain scenes to make it suitable for classification for
the target audience we are aiming at.

How would you avoid potential issues in your work?

We would endeavour to avoid these issues by filming in areas that the general public are less
likely to be in e.g. the beach, or arranging camera angles so that the public are avoided when
filming. If we are filming where the public are more likely to be, we can pick quieter places to film
or film at times of the day that are less busy to keep this problem to a minimum. We could also
make the public aware that we are filming so they have a choice if they wish not to be seen on
film.
