Kofi Annan once said,We may have different religions, different
languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race. It has been said that we all belong to one world even though we are different race, religion and even color. Some people think that we are all one society, even if we have differences. Individuals struggle to find common ground because to racism, stereotypes, and differing perspectives. People struggle to find common ground due to differing perspectives and stereotypes. In the article,Making the Future Better Togetherby Eboo Patel the author states,Back then, it was a common anti-Catholic practice to burn the Pope in effigy.(4) This shows the readers that back in the day, it was normal for anti-Catholic people to practice the act of burning a sculpture. This demonstrates that the anti-Catholic people didnt appreciate the Pope. Besides that, in the article, A Quit of a Country by Anna Quilden the article says,Many of the off-told stories of the most pluralistic nation on the earth are stories not of tolerance, but of bigotry.(1) This shows that instead of hearing about the good things in our country, we tend to hear the bad. This demonstrates that even though America is a mix of different cultures, people tend to say and hear about how people cant be together because of their differences. Apparently, individuals tend to find it difficult to find common ground due to the fact of differing perspectives and stereotypes. People struggle to find common ground due to racism. In the play,A Raisin In The Sunby Larraine Hansberry, the text explains, In my time we was worried about not being lynched and getting to the North if we could and how to stay alive and still have a pinch of dignity too (42) In this example, the readers learn that back then, African Americans had to get away from being punished and going to the North to be safe and know how to live and have dignity. This demonstrates that there was discrimination, and there wasn't any equal human rights.Besides that, also in ,A Raisin In The Sun, the text states,...that for the happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities. (77) In this example, people can assume that for everyone to be happy, they will all have to live on their own communities. This suggests that back in the day, there was separation between race and that those people that wanted to move into the other society couldn't because it would be a threat for those people living there having someone else from the other society would cause a threat to them. One could acknowledge that its hard for people to find common ground because its not racism, stereotypes, nor differing perspectives that makes it difficult to find common ground, but its our actions. It is clear that actions speak more than words. It is extremely important for people to understand that race is a useless title, and that you can either take action to adding to the problem because theyre different and create chaos, or you can keep it to yourself, move on and keep peace.
