CITY OF EUGENE PUBLIC WORKS DEPT. WILL RECONSTRUCT ROAD-
BEDS OF SIXTH & SEVENTH AVENUES BETWEEN HIGH & GARFIELD STREETS
BEGINNING APRIL 10

Current roadbeds are in critical need of reconstruction from deterioration say city officials.

EUGENE, Ore., April 9, 2017 The Eugene Public Works Department announced that

reconstruction will begin on Monday, April 10 on Sixth and Seventh Avenues to replace aging

roadbeds and add a sixth travel lanetwo of Eugenes key east-west arterials.

The plan is to plant approximately 600 new trees along the streets with an average of

eight trees per block on each side of Sixth and Seventh Avenues, each tree will be between 15-

35 feet tall. Although the project requires the removal of 26 historic trees, 26 historic trees will

be preserved.

The voter-approved project will feature reconstructed sidewalks, according to Project

Manager Mack Trucks, The existing roadbeds are 40-70 years old and are in poor condition af-

ter being resurfaced many times. The current roadbeds need to be removed and a new foundation

and asphalt surface built. The $10.2 million project is funded by Federal and State Highway and

has successfully prevented businesses of residences from relocation in the process. At least two

lanes of traffic will remain open on both Sixth and Seventh Avenues during construction.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, April 10, 2017 and completion is scheduled

for Friday, June 9. Preliminary plans and statements of impacts are available at the City of Eu-
