Slewing ring

Slewing ring
General information

The slewing ring in a wind turbine is

the connection between the tower
and the nacelle, (turbine house).
Most of the rings have external
gears.

Smaller slewing rings are also used

in the connections between the hub
and rotor blades. Most of the rings
have internal gears.
Slewing ring
General information

The slewing rings make it possible

to orient the nacelle and the pitch
angle of the rotor blades according
to the wind direction and wind
speed.
To operate the slewing rings one
or more electrical engines are
used called Yaw drive and Pitch
drive depending were they are to
be used.
Slewing ring
General information

Yaw system
Electrical engines that
rotates the nacelle to
face the changing wind
direction

Pitch system
Electrical engines adjust
the pitch angle of the
blades to make best use
of the prevailing wind
